I decided this past weekend to go after that unruly screw again (see http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/250264.html?1168566177 if you missed the 1st part).

I widened my flathead gap a little more with the hacksaw and removed the air scoop so I could get my giant 2-handed screwdriver in there to work on it. Lo and behold, it moved just a smidgen! So gently, ever so gently, I managed to back it out about 2mm before my rigged screw head started stripping out again. However, that was all I needed to attach my VICE GRIPS! Mwah-ha-haaaa! That soft screw provided excellent grip, and I managed to back the whole thing out, which allowed me to remove the whole rest of the hand guard assembly. Hooray! Surprisingly, the thread locker wasn't caked up like I expected it to be, but it did span the entire length of the screw.

So, thus ended my epic battle. I actually got to ride my bike all weekend, and I didn't have to look gimpy and lop-sided.

next time, try putting a soldering gun on the screw to heat it up and melt the loctite. it usually works for me.

Been there, done that. My screwdriver from hell snapped the stoopid handquard mounting bolt thing at the clutch pivot. Handguard relinquished with a drill and a vice. Screw was in stock at my dealer.

Congrats. I'm glad the battle is over and you were the victorious one & not that damn screw : )
