I want to cut up my '06 airbox like the new '07s. Anyone got pics they can post from both sides/all angles?

Thanks in advance.

The 07 airbox is stiffer than the 06. I think if you remove the same amount of material as the 07, you will have an airbox that is a little weak. There are 21-24 square inches of material removed.

For the work you would have to do, I'd spend the $35.

I modified the '06 air box with seven one inch holes on the left side and on the top, then I duct taped the holes on the right side to block hot air from the heads. This opened it up just enough to let 'er really breathe better. I didn't have to change any other settings.

It seems like most of the people that went to the '07 box required a re-flash to make it run right. That box allows more air, maybe too much for the '06 flash.

There are a few very long and detailed threads on the subject.

With out a doubt the best free mod available for your Buell!

I put an 06 on my 03. It seems to make a HP difference in my casual observations. I think the box is around $35-$40. Worth it in my opinion.

lots of people have cut up (swiss-cheesed) their airboxes...especially the years before Buell started cutting holes themselves...I'll do some searching for it, but someone here cut a large Buell pegasus logo in the side of theirs...really cool looking

Thanks but unfortunately those pics show the left side and the top but not the right side. Apparently it is important to do the holes exactly Buell's way in order to have the induction noise sound waves cancel each other out and keep the noise at a similar level to the earlier airbox covers.

I have heard that simply swiss-cheesing the air box creates a lot of unneccessary and headache inducing noise.

Apparently Buell's engineers did the maths to make the '07
airbox work quietly!

And $35 bucks is too much for all that good engineering?

The plastic is different. I'm assuming that because there is less material that they needed to stiffen the airbox in order to keep the overall strength the same.

Looks to me that despite the extra holes, the '07 airbox came from the same mould as the '06. The stiffening braces look to be the same.

Lenb: When it comes to manufacturing (molds in particular) it would just be plain stupid to change the entire mold for a simple feature(s) like holes. Its just extra money thrown out the window, ya know? Simply adding holes to the old mold and changing the material/mixture (to make up for the structural loss due to the holes) is a lot more cost effective route. Not to mention quick and easy

Sorry for the ignorance, and I know having the holes allows more air to get in, but do you need to have a newer air box cover (tank) with the screen in it by the gas door to have this work effectively, or does the air just get forced in from underneath?

OKAY.... I have a 05 XB9R with the Buell Race Kit and removed snorkel. Would this airbox cover make me LEAN? Or would it help?
