Hey Xb9sx'ers Im a new biker with a few months experience on a ducati monster 750 dark 2000 model - which thought would be a great first bike - I also intend to start commuting to work in the spring. Anyhoooo - I saw one of these Xb9sx & suddenly I feel the need to get into debt & plunge my m750 as a down payment. I went on a test ride & I indeed confirmed my need for this bike - it blew me away - the handling the riding position where just far better than my duc. Thing is im worried about investing in this machine as a good commuter - is this machine reliable & less maintenance hungry than the ducatis ? also - as Im getting this on finance - I guess I might as well opt for a 07 model although I've been told the 06 model is exactly the same - is this the case ? My M750 has termis exhausts on it - they sound alot better than the buells - any recomendations on which aftermarket cans would sound as good as the termis ? Cheers |

Welcome Moondust. I think the XB9SX will make a good commuter for you. These bikes are real easy to work on once you get familiar with them. Buy the Service Manual and do most of the work yourself. Its kinda fun anyways. The 06's and 07's are practically identical. However, if they are the same price, why not get the 07? As for aftermarket exhaust, they all sound good in their own way and is a huge improvement to the stock sound. I have ran the D&D and the now discontinued Buell Race exhaust. The D&D gets the most attention and is one of the better sounding exhausts in my opinion. |

Man that is weird. I had a 99 M750 as my first bike too. I now have a '06 XB9SX and it is ten times the bike my Ducati was. The maintenance is far less than the Duc and it tends to run better too. If you want a cheap pipe the Jardine is very inexpensive and I get comments all the time that it sounds more like a Ducati than a Harley. Good luck! |

I ride my 06 City X about 100km a day round trip to work and back , in a mix of city and highway traffic. Comfortable and fun bike. More power than I need, and uses alot less gas then my truck. A City X will work great for you! |

I have an early 05 9sx and use it for commuting year around in Ohio. If the temps are above 29 degrees and there is not standing snow or ice I am riding. More then 15k miles so far, almost all commuting (50 miles round trip). I average 43 mpg, but I'm a pretty big guy, and don't always show the most restraint in acceleration Virtually no maintenance. I messed with stuff for fun... I put in a HID, which was a huge improvement, and a good mod for commuting. I put on an aftermarket exhaust, which was entertaining for a while but not very useful for commuting (wakes neighbors and draws too much attention, and it just gets annoying). So the exhaust in and intake are back to stock. So far I have basically just changed the oil and primary fluid, adjusted primary tension, and replaced tires. I haven't even replaced the spark plugs yet, the thing just runs. I should do the front fork fluid change this winter. For commuting though, you can't beat the thing. Go anywhere any time. The soft luggage opens up a lot of options for "wal mart runs" as well, or stopping to get something on the way home. There were significant motor improvements (internal durability stuff based on trickle down technology from the XBRR at Daytona) in 06, so getting that buys you a little over the 05. That being said, the 05's are working great as well, so don't just rule an 05 out if you come across a good deal. I am not aware of anything big between 06 and 07. |

Riding her ever chance I get, put the Uly front fender set on it, and running down the dirt roads at high speeds. Very reliable, just gas, oil and scheduled services. (and a tire but that nail would have got any bike) Every time I am on it, I burn through a full tank of gas. Bikes are identical, so go with which ever gives you the best payment for your budget. Go with the 2007 only if you are concerned with resale trade-in down the road

Really ?- see the thing is - Im paying on finance so over the long term - it isn't going to make much difference ie: for sake of £5 pounds more a month I can have an 07 model. Im thinking might be slightly better on resale value later... I just hope it doesn't feel diff to the 06 demo bike I rode - that felt right ! Hey - thanks for all the feedback here - Ive had alot of buell haters trying to swerve me on to a new duc or jap bikes like the z750 saying things like I'll regret it - I'll have nothing but probs & resale will be hard etc etc BUT I just don't care - the min I sat on it - it exceeded my expectations. Hope to pick up an 07 xb9sx in a few weeks Any other recommendations on aftermarket cans to match the sound of my Termis on my current M750 ..? Also - anybody know what minor changes ? I really can't understand this Buell hating thing that goes on with some folks. They work really, really well, are an absolute hoot to ride, are reliable and low cost to maintain, and certainly look very cool. Is it because they don't race much? Because they are associated with Harley-Davidson and sportbike guys don't like H-D? Because they are American? I don't know, I just ride and enjoy mine. Anyhow, I've heard nothing negative about CityX bikes from those who own them, and I've had no issues with mine, so either year will probably be fine. You are probably right about the '07 resale being a little higher, but I've never been good at calculating the difference in cost vs. the difference in retail later. I would say buy from whichever dealer you like best and has a good reputation. I put the factory race muffler on mine, but then took it off because I got pulled over by the police who said they heard me coming and were waiting for me! Loud pipes DO NOT save licenses. |

By the way. . . there are some very active, if perhaps quiet, Buell riders in the London area if you need help with anything. My cousin is there working for two years and if you need help, or someone to show you how to ride it and have fun , just say the word . . London is a hop, skip and a jump from New York City! I have a Sporty that is all done up, in hopes of making it, well, Sporty. I had always admired the Buell line, but until I rode one it was at a distance. A few friends and I went on a demo ride, where I got to ride an R (the one I wanted), and then a CityX, the one I ended up loving. I was so smitten by the CityX grin factor I bought one later that week and haven't regretted it a day since! --Sean |

Running the Buell Race set, got one of the last ones available. It is a bit loud, me and the law enforcement guys are getting to be on a first name basis. My favorite one was, "They neighbors would appreciate it if you did not run through here on Sunday morning". |

Consider selling your M750 privately. You should get a better price than trade-in, and paying that better price as cash against your finance as a deposit will bring your finance repayments down further. That is to say, you get two bites of the cherry. You're borrowing less because of a bigger deposit and because of such you also pay less interest because you borrowed less. I saw a segment on the CBS Sunday Morning News, today, about the problems American car companies are having - declining market share. The main issue being a perceived disparity in quality between American and foreign cars. While there is a still an overall gap it has been significantly reduced but as GM's boss pointed out being equal to the competition is not going to win back their lost customers. In order to overcome the negative bias the Americans will need to be much better than the competition and so it goes with motorcycles too . |

If the payments are close buy the '07. IT will not depreciate as much. You should be able to get the '06 for around $8000,00 since it is left over. IF you can't get the 07. maintenance compared to a ducati! twice the ride time compared to twice the wrench time. Get the buell! |

Hey Hotdog271, Believe me If I could get the XB9sx fo as Cheap as $8000 over here in the UK I would be happier than Larry !!!!! Instead I have o pay as much as $12700 which is £6495 over here RRP - I have to go with retail price as Im going the finance route so I guess you yanks are very lucky. There isn't many HD/BUELL dealers in London - I've tried all of em - to get a better deal but no dice! I guess I really like this machine - as I couldv'e got a brand new Ducati S2r 800 for about a grand less .. Anyway - its done & the pain will fade as I enjoy the ride.. i hope |

Sorry, didn't realize you were in the UK. I'll be there visiting in a few months, I'll have to look you up to see the bike. Good luck with the purchase. I just got a leftover XB12SS and got a great deal. The dealer wanted to create space. But I live within a half hour of four dealers. Good luck with the ctyx. It is a bad bike. |

Moon, you have that the wrong way around. If you went to Thomas Cooks tomoz with £6495 to exchange for US dollars you'd walk out with $12700 - less a bit of commision. Now if you went to the US to buy your Buell for $8000, you'd save £2000. Shame there's shipping, import duty and VAT to add on if you brought one back yourself. Rocket |
