For those who haven't heard yet, Buell send dealers an memo yesterday to let them know that the XB9R is being dropped from the Buell line-up for 2008. The jist of the memo was basically if you want an XB9R, you better order them now for March, April and May deliveries. No mention was made of the XB9SX. Wonder what else is going on? |

I'm curious as to why they decided to do this. I'm a little bummed - not that I would have wanted a 9, but when the time comes to pull the motor apart and do a big bore kit, I'll want the 9 crank and rods. |

Interesting, kinda makes you wonder. Doesnt really make sense to me, the 9 engine has built itself an almost cult like following, I wont miss it any but I do wonder what will replace it, surely buell doesnt intend to offer the 12 engine only in the firebolts? I would think that that would result in a pretty significant loss of potential sales. I guess only time will tell. |

I'm convinced something very cool is up for 2008 and I base this statement on the following: 1. 2008 is Buell's 30th anniversary so a new commemorative model would be appropriate. 2. Court has posted that while he knows nothing official, he's expecting something big for 2008. 3. An Anony post in the "Racing" forum, in the thread "Buell's 2007 Formula Xtreme Effort" said there will be no 2007 factory effort because they were concentrating on developing something else which we would see in 2008. 4. The XB9R gets discontinued for 2008 so something needs to replace it. 5. (biggest reason) I finally bought my first new Buell last month (a 2007 Ulysses) so OF COURSE they're going to come out with a completely new engine/bike shortly afterwards!!! For the record . . . Court posted in 1988 that I was expecting something new and innovative based on rumors of the first Buell with a H-D Evo motor. . .
For bonus points name the famous bike the yellow tag is on and name the very famous person (now deceased) who inflicted the damage on the bodywork

Parts are NO problem. The is not part, ever put on a Buell, that can not be ordered from Buell. I was entertained recently when someone was talking about how they'd get an inner liner for the luggage on their 1997 S-3T. They were going to go to a seamstress and have a set of inner bags made. My amusement stemmed from the fact that there are likely 5 times as many sets, in stock at Buell, as there were S-3T produced. It's a function of production economy and order points. Ditto S-2 bodywork . . . . etc. Take any of the "dealer speak" about "you can't get that" with a grain of salt. . . the Buell P&A folks are good. . . VERY GOOD.

No problem . . . it was first posted in a letter to Dr. Don Chase who was spearheading the first Buell Homecoming. I still have the roster of the Buell owners club. . . is was done on a Visa-Calc spreadsheet and there were like 14 of us. Later there were similar postings on CompuServe about the time that rumors began going around about a possible hook-up between Erik Buell and Harley-Davidson. Erik was doing outsource work for them at the time and there was beginning to be some interest in forming a new company that was an Erik and HD jointly owned firm. Court |

P.S. - to Rich and any others who recall Don, the rumors of his death (from the brain tumor) was greatly exaggerated. I had an hour long conversation with Don recently and he is providing me with all of his old Buell correspondence. |

Court wrote:"Parts are NO problem. The is not part, ever put on a Buell, that can not be ordered from Buell. ... ... After an incident on mine (4-5 years back) Buell was sending S3 front fenders in lieu of the fiberglass beautiful S2 fenders. (They pale in comparison to the S2 styling) I was eventually taken care of (Thanks Bruce!) but I never heard if this was resolved. I understood that it was an intentional and permanent substitution. on a sales note side, most of my customers prefer the XB12R over the 9 model. This is the first year that I have people specifically asking for the 9 model. One in stock now, ordering what we can while they are available. The CityX has always been a hit locally, I had to wait months before I could get on ordered as no dealers locally would trade them out. |

Court, I really was just joshing, kidding, never had one doubt that you'd actually posted that message. I fully expected to see something about a Wildcat BBS or something when I logged in this PM. Tongue was firmly in cheek. G2 |

Ever onward and upward, so I am taking this as really good news. I have to guess that a free revving replacement is coming, but better in some way. If I were about to buy a 9 I would be holding off. Heck if I were about to buy any of the bikes I would hold off or accept that something cooler this way comes. On the other hand, I have an 04 12 which I plan on riding for the next 40 years and am not feeling pressured so far by the improvements in the line to feel any differently about the bike. It is my hope that it will be augmented someday with another Buell, but never replaced - |

The CityX has always been a hit locally Then answer me this, if the cityx is so popular, why have I never seen another one on the road. I rarely see any Buells, but I have NEVER seen another cityx in seattle |

they are around....ive had someone stop me in the middle of an apt complex and say hey i have one just like that....i saw a cityx parked in my apt parking lot last month but couldnt find the owner...u rarely see one but they do exist...kinda like finding diamond in the middle of the freeway....its rare but i bet theres one out there somewhere and when u do find it its pretty cool .....or u could ride a GSXR whatever and see ur type of bike all the time. ive met cityxslicker i dont think he would be fibbin shit he's the only person ive met in the pnw that has gotten any buell riders together even downtown didnt have a brag chapter did they. |

Damn...this seems like some bad news as I was just planning on buying a XB9 city (was actually going on Wednesday)... May need to ditch this and get the 12, although I liked the city as an entry bike... 2K USD and 10hp are not something I'm really willing to go for between the 9 and the 12 |

MollyH I wasn't trying to make a snarky comment. Does anyone actually know who many cityx they sell a year? I know DowntownHD did not have a brag group. It seems the demand was just not there. Steve tried to get one going before the dealer got sold, he has since retired. Discodino, I think they are only retiring the xb9R, not the xb9s. |

If you are always waiting for the "newest" item to be available, you will never pull the trigger on anything. Enjoy what you get while you have it. Something new will be available eventually. You might miss a middle iteration, but so what. Besides. I will not be interested in buying the first year of any new model particularly if it is a completely new design. My Uly will be just fine for a couple more years. That should put me in the 2009 year for 2010 models. There should be some really cool stuff with 99% of the kinks worked out. |

Molly, Speaking of the "remember way back when"... My Buell has a carb, a shock under the motor, a one big ol' honking headlight and an actual fuel tank!!! |

In the past 3 years (all the time that I have been working at the dealership) We have had 6 city X's, each of them sold in under two weeks. Fair warning, I have one coming on the next truck, and list of 8 people vying for it. Most of them are on the other side of Hood Canal Bridge. There are some wicked twisties out that way, cant wait till the roads clear |
