hey is this XB Pro Series Suspension even worth it? What do I gain? Bear in mind I'm about 250 with gear. I'm pretty much maxed out on preload on my shock.

Is it worth it or not?

I bought this kit too, haven't ridden with it yet since the Wisconsin winter is here finally. I was told that it depends on how hard you ride. I'm a little over 200 with gear and I wanted it to prevent front end dive on the track when braking. The fork springs are also a linear rate spring rather than a progressive rate. This might change the way the bike rides on the street, if you use it as a daily commuter. It's a pretty good deal at $75 if you ask me. It just depends if you ride the bike hard enough to notice it.

How hard was it to put that shock on? Can it be done relatively easy? I'm not looking at going to HD, but if I have to, I will. I'll jut bring in my shock and new spring.

Thanks Schmitty.

I'm over 250lbs. with my gear.
I have plenty of front spring preload unused. I'm on the 6th ramp on the rear.
My XB9S rides and handles great.
I see no need to change the springs.
If they work for you now, I see no need to change to a higher rate spring just so you don't use the preload.

It really depends a lot on the skill level of the rider and the way they prefer their set-up.

For heavier riders getting proper sag can be difficult with stock springs and the pro
suspension springs might fix that.

If I was to do it I would go a different way myself and get a set of springs that match
my weight properly from someone like traxxion dynamics. They can determine the right
spring rate for you and either sell you those springs, or they will install them for
you if you send your forks and shock to them. They can even adjust internal damping
rates to suit your riding style.

The really fast guys usually reccomend upgrading suspension before motor to make you
faster around the track, and even street riders can benefit from a suspension tuned for
their specific weight. Like any "One size fits all" solution the pro spring kit will not
be an ideal fit for everyone.

Traxxion Dynamics, computrak, LE and other suspension shops can help you out with this.

Yeah... I get it. I understand. I am on my last notch on preload as far as the spring is concerned and it works fine. Here's the deal.... My wife and I try to ride together quite a bit. So, if I can stiffen up the suspension for rather little... Seems pretty good to me. Plus, Im not really in love with the progressive springs in the forks. When I do ride with out the wife, I ride hard and fast. I'm not a fan of progressive springs.

I have them on an 04 xb12s & love them, I weigh about 180 lbs, the only downfall is they ride a little choppy over tar strips

If you carry a passenger and you're maxed out on preload solo, then you need to get the stiffer springs.
Suspension set-up is always a compromise.
It can't be perfect for all situations.
If you only rode on smooth even surfaces, as on a race track, then a stiff spring would work well.
But, where I ride, I rarely find that kind of surface, I need a suspension that moves easily to soak up the rough surfaces rather than bounce me around as a too stiff suspension would do.

Mxer83,
Maybe I was reading it wrong but the kit that was available at the dealer said it was for '05 and up--I know the fork diameters are different (as well as the triple tree clamps) from '04 to '05 but does the kit still work?? I questioned the dealer and all they could tell me was that the rear spring has the same replacement number for all the years but no info on the front..If it fit on yours please let me know. I'd like to do it to my '04 too...

It will not fit the 03-04's or any year low/scg.

For those of you looking into getting this kit, I'm checking into the actual spring rate of this set. I should hear back from Buell shortly.

I really prefer to sell Buell product over aftermarket when I can, because I know it is good quality stuff, and they stand behind what they make. When it comes to something like universal performance springs, however, I would feel much more comfortable offering a customer springs with a rate that is suitable to their size and riding style rather than a one size fits all. Hopefully I will hear back soon so we can know what size of a person these will be best for.

I tried the kit on my 04 12R front. They won't fit. So I call traxxion and got their springs based upon my weight. They were quite heavier that the kit springs. I'm happy with the set up. It is more predictable and was able to get my sag closer. I still have a lot of stiction particularly if I over tighten the axle nut. The forks seem to pinch in a bit. Anyway the ride is more predictable. I will admit that I'm definitely not a Nicki Hayden and am probably slower than his misses Hayden.
: )

Hey Rhun,
I just checked your profile. We both have the exact same bikes. Right down to the years and colors. Will we see you at Hallett this year?

Good to hear from you again Drake. Glad to see you picked up an 'R' Have you been putting in a lot of time at Hallett? If so probably not!! : ) I had trouble keeping up with you on your SX!!
Heartland has been running a lot of events last year and have at least 1 Monday per month next year except July. 105+ degrees last July.
I really liked Hallet though, excluding the broken collar bone though. |)
I been thinking about going there again. I'll get with you if I do, so we can hook up.

diablobrian is right, the kit fits 2005 & up. we found that out the hard way, I used the rear shock spring from the kit& a friend who works at the dealer found me the right fork springs, money well spent in my opinion , but take your time setting it up.

You can contact Traxxion directly via email. Traxxion has loads of experience with Buells since day one. You're not going to save much money but you WILL get good advice and the correct hardware.

I've spent THOUSANDS of bucks with them in the past 5 years on 3 different race bikes suspensions (2 Buell, 1 Suzuki) - and they have springs for anything you need. They can also do re-valving and more.

You might ping one of our sponsors to see if they can get any deals - the prices that Traxxion quotes are retail. I don't know if they have dealer pricing. Regardless, there probably won't be much of a price break.
