If you check with Americansportbike dot come, Al may have a pdf he could send you. I don't think I have my hard copy any longer. I ended up routing my cables between the plate and the dash housing. It took a bit of manuevering, but it worked. The instructions say to lower the forks to route the cables between the top of the tubes and the dash. This is probably the best way to route them, but isn't really a requirement. I did re-route my clutch cable by drilling a hole in the side of the front electrical housing, then routing the cable through. It is pretty bound up right now, but when I install my new clutch cable, I will probably find a better way to do it. |

There is a thread with step by step instructions and pics buried in the archives. You can find it yourself with the search function. Try using the key words 'XB and CROSSROADS'. |

I tried to do without lowering the bars, and had the same problem, when I finally lowered the bars, it made it much easier, as a word of caution, make sure to have the grips and controls mounted correctly in the detents, it makes it easier as well. R |

I had quite a bit of trouble getting the throttle and idle cables to stop binding. I ended up having to take the bug guard off and lower the forks about an inch to get enough room to get everything seated. Once I got it all in place it worked like a champ, but it took way longer than I thought it would. As for the clutch cable, I didn't have any problems. But I did make a guard for it out of some rubber tubing to protect it from the sharp edge of the plate where the left bar bolts onto it. Once you get everything lined up it's a decent set of bars though. A little awkward feeling (wider) if you're used to the stockers, but they'll grow on you. Plus they look decent as well. |

Jpxb9, is that a R clutch cable, or is it just your stock S cable? Did you have troubles routing it behind all the crap under your flyscreen? How did you run the throttle cables? Thx, I got Crossroads for Xmas and am trying to get a good game plan for when I install them. |

Hi Fravel, It's a S cable, the stock one and I had less troubles routing it behind the crap and flyscreen than instructed. For the throttle cable you have to lower a little bit the fork. |

The first time I ran my cables on the Crossroads I had no problems. The second time I took them apart (I may never again), it took me about 6 straight hours and 2 people to get the throttle cable to return. After enough frustration and finesse, I got it into a working position. Then I had to hold it in place until the fly screen got mounted. |

What's the seating position like with these bars? |

Thanks Dale. I've enjoy her a great deal. As for the strainer, I hate it and am about ready to cut it off. I bought a can of body-colored paint from Al and was thinking of modifying the tail and then painting it and the siderails the same color as the frame. I'm also wanting to convert the front to R and chrome the rims. As for the seating position, the biggest thing you'll notice is the bars feel wider. They're not as low as the R, but they are an improvement over the stockers. If you're looking for more of a R position, consider higher footpegs too. I chose Crossroads cleated pegs, which are the same height as R. |

Phil, I think those would look sweet on my X1, my XB12R is fairly stock and a blast to ride, but to be honest, I like the X1 better. Alright dood, dodge the prison there in Huntsville...catch you later. |

wow, alanshouse, that is a long time. i spent maybe two hours from old bars to new by myself. the directions were not very clear, but they just sort of fell into place. like the clutch cables. i got them in where the directions said with no binding, and easy (as easy as it was before) lever action. no binding anywhere. i have an 05, but i can't imagine it's different?? TX, I bought a strainer for a 9 for something like $30 here from a nice guy and chopped it. A little paint (i chose black) and I am so friggin happy with it i can't say. ok, news flash, i have an scg, maybe that mad the difference, oops. (Message edited by luckydevil on January 06, 2007) |
