I've been shopping around for boots for awhile, and was having a hard time making up my mind. The Oxtar TCS Evo RX was one of the boots I was already interested in, and when I found them on sale, that made the decision for me! $80 cheaper than MSRP, and $40 cheaper than anywhere else I could find! Know that you wont be allowed to run on a track in most venues with these. I sell Oxtars; they are great boots, but this model has metal toe sliders. They will say that can make sparks, aka completely illegal in US racing. | ||

Just take off the toe sliders and you're good to go. Some people love those boots. | ||

While they appear to be very functional, I can't get past the gaudy styling. What ever happened to proper black riding/racing boots? | ||

I have these boots ( white Evo ). The cheapest I could get them for over here in the UK was £160. And whats wrong with the Storm Trooper look?They are comfy and just right for the road. | ||

My priorities for buying riding gear: 1. safety 2. comfort 3. style points. It has to be functional first and foremost, and these boots have gotten good reviews on that point. The valid point was made that they are not track legal. this is a good thing for those that are considering a track day to know. 2. Comfort is purported to be excellent in these boots. I have never worn them myself because my Sidi Vertigos are still serving with valor (even my previous street vertebras are still in action as my brother's race boots). Anyway riding boots will only save you from injury to your ankles and feet if you are wearing them, seems simple, but lots miss that point, so comfort does affect safety. style points come last for a reason, I don't spend any time at the hangouts trying to impress the local squids with my fashion sense and style. posing holds zero interest for me. That may be different from someone elses' opinion, and that's fine. To each their own. | ||

Yeah, I knew they weren't track legal. To my knowledge, I'm nowhere near a track, and that's not really my kind of riding anyway. Appreciate the heads-up, though.  As far as "gaudiness", have you shopped around any for boots in the $200-$350 price range that are race-styled? This is as tame as it gets!  I picked these for the safety features (and of course, the price). They have armor in all the necessary places, a torsion control system to help against ankle injuries, plus a toe hinge that limits metatarsal hyper extension (this is the only boot I've seen with this feature). A friend of mine at work that used to race Ducs spoke highly of the brand, and the TCS Evo RX is pretty much top of their line, so hopefully they'll work out well. ~SM | ||

Cool sounds like it's the right boot for you! Good job giving other Buellers a heads-up. Yes, all of the really protective boots in the sporty configuration are pretty loud. Even my "black" Sidis have large logos and red plates on them. It's a price I'm willing to pay for the protection offered, much like you  | ||

Well, speak of the devil, they're in already! I ordered some size 9's... the site only allowed whole sizes, and I usually wear anything from a 8.5 to a 9.5. My toes come to the VERY end of the Oxtars... far enough to know I don't have any more room, but not far enough to be uncomfortable. I'm sure the 10's would have been too big. This is my 1st pair of riding boots, so I can't really compare the comfort to anything else but my in-line skates. With all the plastic and bracing, that's pretty much what they feel like. I CAN tell you they don't bother me at all to walk around the house, so maybe that means they're comfortable.  They do squeak like a sunofagun, and that's after I lubed them all over with the included silicone. The torsion control system uses plastic-on-plastic "bands" tucked inside pockets, and they rub inside where you can't get the silicone. Hopefully after some wear the silicone will work itself down into these hard-to-reach spots, and they'll quieten up a little. Also, I don't think they look quite so crazy sci-fi when you're actually wearing them. They're pretty modest in appearance. Anyway, that's my take for now. Maybe I'll check in later after they get some miles on them to let you all know how they work. ~SM | ||

I can attest to the sparks. I've used them at a couple track days and never knew they were illegal. They sell replacement sliders in plastic by the way. And it wouldn't be a bad idea to go plastic anyway. The Ti sliders wore through in no time. But I swear I've seen wsb races where Baylis had sparks coming from his toe sliders. Maybe Bayliss was grinding the screws that hold his sliders on? It's either that, or the WSB guys can get away with a lot more than the US privateers can (kind of like the big name pros not showing for the "mandatory" riders' meetings?) |
