so sad to hear all the sob stories. I just broke 20k miles, 31 degrees F at 80mph the whole way home from work at 1:30am and loved it. I fly a 9 million dollar aircraft every day but it doesn't put a smile on my face like jumping on my bike and tearing off to work. 5 rear tires, 2 fronts, 8 oil changes, 1 battery, 200 primary chain adjustments, 5 stops by cops(no tickets), and zero washes. I must be lucky. |

Well, I dont think even a Buell would be fun to ride if it were a 2 rider bike. First you needed to get briefed, then do a PPC while the guy thats going to ride on the bike with you did a preflight. Not to mention bank and pitch angle restrictions. Oh, I almost forgot...You better be able to explain how the A/F ratio is adjusted by all the systems on the bike...Thats just the tip of the ice berg...Now that you mentioned it, what is the percentage of ice not visible? Ok grab your reflective belt and ride!...Not to much fun! Thank goodness we dont have to do all that. |

I don't know what's up. I've adjusted hot, cold, gone with syn3, mobile1 and I still get clunky shifting. Only after I ride in the rain does it smooth out and then it's time to change the primary fluid. |

Oh I see, you are looking for a smooth tranny. The tranny is a bit agricultural, nature of the beast. Try and shift it more like a Harley and less like an R6(not joking). We all love the growl and torque of the v-twin we have. The tranny is part of the package. I've accepted it |

I found a noticeable improvement in shifting with my S3 (after a stator replacement) when I adjusted the internal linkage and switched to Formula+. Easy enough to try the Formula+. The internal linkage adjustment is easy to do IF you already have the primary cover off, and removing the primary cover isn't too difficult, just time-consuming. |

I was talking with Dave a month or so ago about my bike clunking into gear instead of a nice snick. My inquiry was about missing 2nd every once in a while when really pouring the coal to it. His response was that these trannys have to be shifted like you mean it. Since that conversation, I've fine tuned my shifter adjustment to better fit my boot, and I pay more attention to the force I use to shift; immediate improvement. Also, I stopped using H/D SportTrans fluid and put a quart of my motor oil in the primary (Rotella T 15W40). Now it shifts like butter. As for the constant primary chain adjustments, that's strange. I wonder what the problem could be? Despite having my compensator nut come off the primary shaft once, I've never had to adjust my chain in 9,000 miles of riding. |

I hear 'ya about the force used to shift. I've missed 2nd many a time myself (not nearly as many times as I've gone for 6th but that's another thread). I guess I just have to accept the shifting charachteristics of this tranny and get over trying to adjust it perfectly. That's what took me 200 tries. I haven't adjusted in about 5k miles so... |
