ok so now that i got my bolt issue figured out i was able to finish up my rebuilt buell. i had pulled the bike apart to repaint the frame/ swingarm and swap on an s tailsection. tonight i tried to start the bike and it cranks over just fine but the fuel pump doesnt sound like it turns on. i checked my power and grounds to the pump and with the key on and the kill switch in crank i have power to the three non black wires and good ground on the black. could the fuel pump have died while it was on my bench for a week? or am i missing something. i do not yet have a shop manual so i cant really trace wiring, all i can do is check power and grounds. any help would be appreciated thanks ryan |

Well I'm pretty sure a fuel pump can't just die sitting on a bench for a week. Spend the 65$ for the book,It's worth its weight in gold. Guess the first step would be to check ALL the wiring. |

They changed the fuel pump to a new design mid-way in the 2005 model year. My '05 service manual shows both types and describes them as the '05 "early" and the "late" version. So apparently there is some kind of issue, although I have the "early" and haven't had any problems yet. |

Yes the changes to the 05 and up I think were just due to fuel starving under hard throttle or when the tank is on the low side, just the fuel pick up was revise I think.... I wonder about troubles with the fuel pumps in general other than this? |

the issue with the 03 style pumps was gas starvation under hard braking or right hand turns at high lean angles unless the tank was close to full. Turn one at Blackhawk Farms is one example of where I had trouble with the 03. I doubt the pump went bad while on the bench. On the other hand, if it has power, it should be working? |

HEy Dave , Is that not true for the 04 pumps as well as far as ya know? |

My 04XB12S has that problem with 1/2 tank, hard stop - almost kills it. Really noisy when cold and when low on fuel. Is it wise to replace or just go until the pump goes? Boyd - get the manual. You will have it figured out after about 10 minutes of tracing wires/relays/fuses. Great repair manual for this bike. It's a must in my opinion if you don't want your bike messed up by someone else. |

Hogs, I do not remember when they changed the pump for sure. I never had the issue with the 04 12R at Blackhawk like I did with the 03? Xbeau, Just keep it full and ride til it quits. The new fuel pump is 276.30 |

DAVES, thats what i thought. power=work right? unless something is backfeeding a false good power and then when the pump loads it there is not enough amperage to run the pump....... maybe? |
