Does anyone have insight as to what these symptoms mean? Start up is perfectly normal, but when I switch into first, engine begins to bog down and give only a fraction of the power output it should be giving. Same for all other gears. I got about two miles on the freeway and then the engine light comes on. Last Fuel I used was Chevron 91 Octane, and never used anything above or below 91 octane. No signs of problem onset, it was working fine earleir today. |

First check for error codes that might of been set by the ECM. If so what are they? If you switch back into neutral does the engine start and run fine? |

Water in teh fuel is possible but it's more than likely your O2 sensor. Of course I just taking an edgejamakated guess. Pull the codes and see what it says. |

Check your kickstand switch. Mine did the same thing but while I was riding it. It would run in neutral, then start to try to shut down when in gear. It's cheap too. Smokescreen |

His motorcycle has the case of the "bog downs" before it shuts off. bog down: cause to slow down or get stuck. |

No kickstand switch? His profile say's he has XB12R, Am I missing something? Or do 12's not have a kickstand saftey switch? My buddy's 9s had the same problem we just swapped out the kickstand switch, fixed. (Message edited by barker on December 05, 2006) |

My buddy's problem was an engine in/out issue not a "bog-down" (Message edited by barker on December 05, 2006) |

thanks for the attention here. Im gonna have it towed down to Bartels to see what they have to say. Im guessing something may be clogged (ie. fuel filter) or a kink in the fuel line. I dont know if this is normal but when I accelerate the bike in neutral, I can hear a valve opening and closing from within the airbox. I know which one it is, but I dont know its name so we'll call it George. |

From with in the air box, it is probably the exhaust servo motor......I am not sure how that would affect the bike. (Message edited by lost_in_ohio on December 05, 2006) |

Vaneo, I think Bartels dropped Buell. Call first. Maybe they are still doing service. |

Does the engine respond normally to the throttle in neutral? |

I would be old fashioned and change the plugs first............running on one cylinder , just a thought |

Yep! plugs first, a wet one will do that. And run better gas.......really! (Message edited by etennuly on December 05, 2006) |

My thoughts exactly!! I was thinking one of the spark plugs was fouled. Better gas? 91 is the best I can get out here, I could go for 101 octane but there are opinions for and against it, as well as research to back up both arguments. I did run 101 once before long time ago, and the engine ran so smooth. Anyway back on topic, my bike is at Bartels right now and I have heard myths before that they stopped SELLING Buells but will continue to service them...Of vourse, I have never seen a Buell (Brand New) in their showroom to begin with. No, Oldman the engine idles normally but once throttle is open, the engine lags and fuel is not being throughly burned. If the spark plug assumption is correct, this makes sense. I also got an error light so Im curoius to hear what the tech says about the error message. |

Higher octane gas will not help your problem. The higher the octane rating the less easier the gas burns. You could have some bad gas, maybe contaminated with water. I'd empty the tank and fill up at a different station with a different brand. But it could be electrical-plugs, wires, coil or the ECM. Plugs are the most likely though. |

we shall see, we shall see, I should get the bike back today. (keeping fingers crossed) On another note I borrowed a Sportster 773, and I was splitting lanes and suddenly traffick stopped. I screetched a little tire, but not too much. As I pulled through the traffic some more, I felt to embarassed becuase I bet I looked like an idiot. Thank God for full face helmets. |

My 9R had a bad bogging-down problem, in all gears. It kept trying to die at every stop. The HD shop repaired it, said the clutch switch was bad. That might be your situation, but I never had a fuel light go on; the "check engine" light would turn on before it died at stops. |

"Higher octane gas will not help your problem. The higher the octane rating the less easier the gas burns" Not Quite, higher octane burns slower there for, it burns more completely and pushes the piston further down the cylinder on the power stroke. Higher octane is better in most circumstances, unless it is being run in an engine that doesn't need it. At that point it becomes wasted money. |

sounds like the dealer "technician" had himself a little guessing game, nice that they didnt charge you for the sequencial-part-replacement method of repairing your bike. |
