Silly problem. Trying to get the seat off my 04 12S to hook up the battery tender & get into airbox to fog the motor. Key turns less than 1/4 turn clockwise. Can hear a latch moving but won't release the seat. Have tried pushing seat down, up, back, forwards to no avail. Can't seem to get into any mechanism in there from the outside. The key turns easily in the lock but only between 1/8 and 1/4 turn. Someone must have the answer?? Please and thanks. | ||

Have you tried pushing and pulling seat down, up, back, and forward while someone else keeps the key turned 1/4 turn clockwise. My seat on my '06 Long locked up on me once and I had to have a buddy keep twisting the key as I manipulated the seat until it popped off. It's worth a shot! | ||

It is a small turn of the key, You have it, just gotta jiggle until you find the sweetspot. Pull the strap up and towards the rear of the bike. What seat do you have? My Select seat has a strap across the tail that makes it EZ to get a hold of. (Message edited by disturbed on December 04, 2006) | ||

As already mentioned, the key only turns a 1/4 turn if that. Pull up on the back of the seat and back (away from air cover)before releasing the key. Some time mine will not unlatch all thew way if I let the key turn back before I lift the back of the seat. It will not lift very far before sliding the seat away from the air tank. The first time I did it I thought it was broke. | ||

While turning the key, stick your fingers between the BACK of the seat and the sub-frame (by the rear tail light) and give it a tug upward and rearward. | ||

Thanks guys. Tried all that except the last one, although I did try to get my finger between the seat and the tail piece without much luck. I had the problem before and kept at it and it finally came off. Should have had a good look at the problem before I put the seat back on. Please keep the suggestions coming. | ||

When you do get it off, you may want to lube the latch assembly and cable with some white lithium grease. My '04 seat can be a bugger at times. | ||

The entire assembly is loose. Take the tail light out and you'll be able to reach in and trip it with a screwdriver. Loctite and tighten assembly. Dawg | ||
