There seem to be little changes between the 04',05',and 06' XB12S...other than the smoother gearbox and easier to pull clutch of the 06'. Has anyone rode both model years, is it really worth turning down 04 and 05 models? Thanks! |

With a muller clutch you'll get a pull that is even easier than 06 IMO I've ridden a bunch a of 07's I'd like to know the tranny acts after a few thousand miles. Maybe someone who actually still owns both bikes will chime in here... |

I've had my '06 for about a month now and everything is really smooth. I also have an '03 with 23K on it, so obviously there's a big difference between them. I've only got a couple thousand miles on it, but I can't figure out why the clutch is not as responsive as my '03. I'm a big wheelie guy and always liked riding them standing up in 3rd gear. My '03 is a 9S and my new one is a 12R and for the life of me I can't pull it up in 3rd on the 12! No problems getting it up on the 9. Could it be stock intake/exhaust? |

Duff...I wish I had your problems. Can't pull a wheelie in 3rd GEAR! You make me sick! |

I had an '05 City-X, rode it 12000 miles. I now have a Uly, I have 12000 miles on it. The '05 shifting was stiff and clunky until it broke in at about 8000 miles, then it got smoother, quieter, and easier. The Uly started out where the City-X was when it was broke in. The only other real noticeable difference is that the clutch pull is a little easier. IMO not a big deal, but nice change all the same. |

I had a muller Clutch in a 2005 CityX. I now own a 2006 XB12R and to me the improvement in the clutch and tranny is night and day. Yes, the muller clutch made the pull easier, but it didnt eliminate the clunkiness of the transmission. IMHO The 2006 is WAAAAAAY better and worth every penny. I no longer miss 1-2 shifts and I am confident that my bike is in neutral without having to look to make sure. |

So has anyone updated a pre-06 bike to the new clutch and if so what all is involved. The heavy pull on my S3 a (and now '03 xb9) never bothered me until I got a Uly. If it can be done with simple part swaps I'm all over it. |

it is just a different spring in the clutch I think it is about a 30.00 part. I can look it up for sure if you want? |

Pardon the quasi-hijack: I often see in bike mags and online postings people talking about "snicking" through gears. My 05 doesn't snick; it "bangs". Anyway, recently I stopped using the HD Sporttrans Fluid and dumped a quart of Rotella T 15W40 in the primary (same as I use in the engine) and NOW it snicks. What a HUGE difference the lubrication makes! |

Hmmm. If its just a lighter spring then what did they do to maintain the torque capacity? Did the clutch plates change material to something with a higher coefficient of friction? |
