After shootn the sh*t with my ole' man tonight and talking about adjusting my primary chain he asked a good question. Does anyone make a spring loaded tensioner? He has an 02'flht and installed one a few thousand ago and really likes it. Said it really inproved shifting and took care of a lot of the typical HD "clunk" between gears. Do you think I would be able to adapt a twin cam / evo one to the iron head design? |

Somebody made (makes?) an aftermarket automatic primary chain tensioner that fits Sportsters and Buells, but from all accounts it was junk. The 07 Harley big twins have a new automatic primary tensioner from the factory; no clue how hard it would be to adapt. There may not be enough room in the primary for it. Maybe the factory will come up with one for Sportsters and Buells in a year or two. (Message edited by whodom on December 01, 2006) (Message edited by whodom on December 02, 2006) |

Didn't the "shoe" keep getting misaligned and jacked up on the automatic tensioner? |

Tq Freak- I have one, ran it for a few years on my RS. It worked fine until my chain got so loose that it was making a mark on the inside of the case. Around 35K, if I remember right. I put new shift forks in my bike around then, and removed it at that time. I probably could've replaced the chain, or put stronger springs in the tensioner, and it would be fine, but I was in a hurry, so I put the old original one back in. If you want to try it, let me know. |

Hayden made a decent unit IIRC. Ran one for 2 years and had no problems. |
