at least they got the bike profile right, it's not just a generic motorcycle on there. it is recognizable as a lightning |

Is that just because of the lack of passenger pegs? or is the subframe too weak for a passenger? |

Yes to the lack of passenger pegs. In most States, it is no pegs, no passenger. Makes sense, eh? |

it's too bad that seat is for the 'long' frame - it'd be almost perfect for the way I use my CityX! I might actually be able to move around some on that seat sub-frame + seat for a conversion is probably prohibitive $$$ up here in canucklehead land though |

Think about going to a dealer that handles imported motorcycles and you should recall seeing a large number of models from each manufacturer. Next, think about an HD dealer that got into Buell's 5, 10 or 15 years ago. You found a dealer that had a plethora of different Harley's on the floor and each attracted a different segment of the market. The inverse is, at that same dealer, you found only two to four (guessing here) different Buell's in the showroom that appealed to an equal number of niches in the sporting bike market. Now, with Buell's model proliferation, there is a much wider selection of bikes to fit even more market niches with out having to resort to the old adage that Buell's were Kit Bikes. I believe that was accredited to Paul James. In essence, you bought the basic bike and almost immediately started making or buying parts to turn it into something you really wanted. As it was a base to start from, you spent a lot of time and money on the customization. Now with a much wider variety of models to choose from, Buell takes a significantly larger presence in the dealerships and has models that appeal to more niches in the sporting bike market. Plus, for those that wish to customize/personalize their Buell's, the parts are readily available, reasonably priced. Not to mention, less parts and pieces will need to be altered which keeps the cost down. Sure, the Bueller's that are compelled to create personal masterpieces of their pride and joy (a truly great thing) will do that with any model Buell makes. However, buy merit of increasing the choices available on the showroom floor, the objective is to increase the overall number of Bueller's. Nobody can stay in business for long if all they do is make products for their existing customer base in today's market. Easiest way to explain that is attrition. That is those that decided Buell's weren't for them and switched to another brand or just gave up riding. Other models are sure to follow as well as the coveted faster models. The decision as to what comes first is a matter of priorities which are dictated by market opportunities and timing, governmental interference, research and development, manufacturing concerns and budget allocation. Personally, I really like the TT, can't wait to see one up close and am chomping at the bit to take a demo ride. And that comes from a man that sold his X1 because it was just plain too expensive to convert it into either a street tracker or a super motard style bike. Now, both HD and Buell have found a way to keep me as a customer. My dilemma is whether to by the TT or the XR1200 and checking out the ergo's and a demo ride will make that decision for me. Hell, with all the improvements to Buell's since the Tubers and the carry over of these improvements to the XR1200, all I would like to demo the two bikes for is comfort and handling. Other than that, it would be to determine what components I would consider changing on each. Lastly, since Buell reasonably priced the TT, the only factor that would effect my decision is the price HD puts on the XR1200. 2007 will be a win-win year for me and HDI. The only question is whether the cash goes to Buell or HD. Tough call, eh? |
