has anyone ever looked into having a set of wheels made for their buell? i know the factory wheels are light weight and look good, but it would be nice to have a different wheel. some of the custom builders are using perimeter rotors/brakes on their bikes, so maybe someone will start making wheels for them.. I wonder if the Buell patent on the front brake makes it impossible for other manufacturers to make them. |

The patent defines that if a company uses a floating perimeter mounted rotor... They will need to find a significantly different way to mount the rotor (and still make it float) and that the wheel it's mounted to must be able to handle the conventional braking torque path. Thereby removing their ability to take advantage of the reduced un-sprung mass. Buells patent will expire and then you'll see many companies marketing a similar system (IMO of course). It'll be very interesting to see if anyone can do it better. I'd bet they're working on it right now. |

You can get the Titanium (?) wheels used on the XBRR if you really wanted to through your dealer. I think they are about a $1,000 each. |

You can get spoked wheels that have the floating perimeter brake. You can get one for the rear as well. I think they look great myself... |

just out of curiosity, who makes the spoked wheels, and has anyone looked into alternate sized front rims this way? ( I'm thinking a 19"rim would work well for those of us doing more aggressive off road riding) |

Jens at Hillbilly-Motors has a connection for getting them. There were several pics in a recent post from him. |

"mac, The're magnesium" I couldn't remember what they were made out of. I just knew they were really light and expensive. |

Ron, is that a forged aluminum wheel, or is it billet? It looks similar to the ones I saw a while back on a race bike in Japan. |
