Forgive me if this has been discussed before....

Okay fellas...the CityX atrocity in Milan has got me thinking a bit (actually I have been thinking about it for a while), what do you all think the odds of a XBRR repli-racer in 2008? Also, what do you think the price might be? Lastly, what kind of performance numbers can we expect?

25th anniversary, Buell. Seems like this might be a crossroads for the company.

I don't know about you all, but as much as I love most everthing about Buell, they need to step up to the next level. If not, sadly, I see an Aprilia Tuono 1000R in my future.

Regards.

I think that is what Buell has in store. XBRR street version.

I've been praying for a square or over square Firebolt with a 1200cc or greater displacement for a long time now.

I don't want to get my hopes up too far though so I'll wish for the best and prepare for the worse.

dont count your chickens.

i suspect another XBS in 2008 called the
XB12 Shopping X

It will be the same as a city X but with a basket on the front to put your shopping in.

And don't forget the plastic tassles and the racoon tail off the cheese grater for the off-road model....

A XBRR-street or "XB13R" would be nice
But I still can't believe that with all the variations they've made of the XB design, Buell still hasn't made a sport-touring version.

I'd like to see a bigger piston 9, in the Ss chassis, with a touring fairing and bags.

I think 08 is going to be another revolutionary, not evolutionary year for Buell.

I expect the new bike to be as different from the XB as the XB was from the tube frames.

I do however expect the XB series to be sold along side the new models.

I also expect the Blast to disappear to make room for a new assembly line.
(sorry EZ, but that the way I see it happening)

Of course this is all just speculation on my part. Not whisperings from an insider.
Just pure conjecture on my part.

I think the XB9HKX will be next, the "Hello Kitty X" which will actually be a trike with baskets and pink LED's in the plastic ground effects.

Riders will be able to customize it themselves with Hello Kitty scheme of their choice.

Mine is going to have color changing plastics that induce seizures.

I can't think of anything funny to say and visions of hello kitty XBs has caused my dinner to consider jumping back up my throat, so I'll just talk about my dream of owning a 2008 XB14RR, as in a 1450cc 6-speed, chain driven AMERICAN race replica answer to the jap race replicas. It's time to step up to the plate and stop making excuses about building rideable bikes for the street. We ride sportbikes for christ's sake! Let's get competitive. I wanna see the v-twin busa killer from AMERICA. We've got the perfect platform, so let's put some horses with a decent drive train on it.

Tx05xb12s,

Unfortunately, a twin will NEVER be a Busa killer. Period. Doesn't matter HOW it's built or by whom.

The RR in full race kit is pushing 155HP - the Busa quite a bit more.

Unfortunately, you just can't get there from here.

These beasties we ride are different machines - an inline four, they are not.

Geez, I wonder how this racer guy on his race bike felt about having little ole me hand him his ass with my inferior Buell,a street legal Buell

An XB is already a "Busa Killer" you just have to pick your battlefield.

My battlefield happens to be the length of the intersection, the red light where I'm waiting.

I know the top end is not my playing field, so I HUMILIATE the challenger with my short game.

I pwn the intersections.

So it's not really street legal now, is it?

WHY can Buell not make the HP the I4s have?--the displacement is there.

DOes it come down to water cooling vs. air cooling? Seems like there are some water cooled Twins that are in the same HP ball park as the Jap bikes. My guess is that the water cooling allows for more RPM and more RPM equals more power. Am I close?

Repli-racers are gay.

I already have a busa/gixxer killer.

None of those chuckle heads can keep up in the city. They turned around and left when I hit the dirt roads and I never saw a one of them with a shit eating grin while they were riding.

I have no use for 1450cc's on my bike. But then again, I'm not compensating for anything like most of you guys.

Fresno
It has to do with piston speeds and valve train limitations
You can't rev a 45 degree V-Twin as high as a I4.

It comes down to math on the HP figures. if you can't rev like an IL4, and you can't
with large bore heavy pistons. then you are at a disadvantage in the HP wars.

HP = (torque x rpms)/5252.

Because rpms are multiplied by your torque the higher revving bike for a given torque
figure ALWAYS wins.

If our stroke was shorter and Buell went to a 4 valve, dual plug arrangement to burn
the fuel in the large combustion chamber (flame front speed is another limiting factor)
and the crank was lightened up, then the motor might be able to rev high enough to be
competitive with the IL4s.

The only problem with that is that you end up with a motor that makes all of it's power
up top and becomes very impractical for day to day use. Not to mention fuel economy
dropping because you have to fill the cylinder more often.

Building a motor is always about trade-offs. Water cooling is not some magic that
causes sudden increases in HP by itself. There are many many changes that have been
made for the current generation of IL4s to generate the numbers they do. In a lot of
ways these bikes are less user friendly than the earlier versions with lower peak
numbers.

You can't ride a spec sheet.
