OK...I may have passed the weenie test with flying colors. I dropped my 9sx today at about 1 mph. STOP LAUGHING!! After the required swearing I found I could not pick the bike up! Yes, I have seen the video about the girl picking up the dresser, but if you look at how the bike fell over, its on its crash bars and is an 'easy' bike to pick up. My 9sx fell over flat on its side! all I broke was the inexpensive footpeg( thank you erik!) but there was no way I could stand my bike up! I'm not a lightweight and I have dropped bikes before, so I am at a loss as to the one person method for righting a tipped over xb. Any ideas? |

I get practice with my dirtbikes, grab the handle bar closest to your feet....bend at the knees and lift, grunt swear. |

If I recall correctly, the Rider's Edge Beginner's course taught us to crouch down beside the bike equi-distant between the axles with your back to the bike (seat), grab the frame behind you, and lift with your legs. I had a guy attack me in a parking lot and knock me off of my bike once. It crashed over on it's right side. Here again, I am thankful the design of the bike is very forgiving. There was no damage. Anyway, I used this technique and it popped right up no problem. Considering I'm a buck 40 soaking wet and the bike weights in the neighborhood of 450 lbs wet weight, I was surprised how easy I was able to get it back up. Sorry to hear about your bike. I bought a set of Crossroads pegs from Al and I love them. Shoot him an email and he'll fix you up. |

There's NO way I can pick my bike up if it falls over. Try it while balancing on one foot! |

You missed the "adreneline window"... There is about a 30 second window right after a drop where you have super human strength, made even stronger if you think nobody saw you with the bike over yet. After that first 30 second window, the bike actually gains mass. Its a quantum physics thing, all the other you's in all the alternate universes are laughing at you. Never had to pick up the 9sx. Had to pick up the M2 alone twice, once within the "adrenelin window" one outside it. The second one was a lot harder, only made worse by the fact that I had to ride it about 50 feet down a ditch full of big rocks to get it back on the road. But that's another story |

In addition to the andrenaline, there is the 10-second rule. If it is on the ground for less than ten seconds, it doesn't count. I knocked my 9S over this summer when I tried to push it into the garage and the forks were still locked. I immediately picked it up, but sorry, don't remember the details. I just squatted down, grabbed on, and heaved. Would be a good thing to practice...on somebody else's bike. Bill |

I dunno, I just grab it and pick it up...Dont really think about it. I also looked around and noticed that no one saw me drop it, so it never really happened. |

[/quote] Been there, done that... Turn 1 at Jennings GP. Lowsided about 10 feet from the kitty litter. Stopped sliding / rolling, etc. jumped up, looked around like a cat does when they fall off of something to see if they were observed. Threw my hands up like a rodeo calf roper for "Time" and squatted down and lifted my Z1000 back upright. This was at the end of the front straight, and my wife was video taping as I fell, preserved forever in a digital format. |

I actually practiced on the grass with my wife's Blast. Once you get a the proper technique, it's really quite simple. It's just a matter of "rolling" the bike up on the front wheel. |

The adrenaline window is thwarted by cracked ribs and the inability to breathe. Don't ask me how I know. |

Excellent help! My adrenaline was full on( I was green and had a brow ridge ) but no luck. My biggest problem was the bike was all the way over, flat like a bicycle on the ground. I had no good grip point for my right hand( bike was on its right side). I am going to find a short strap with loops on both ends so next time (!) I might have more leverage.... and by the way. I dropped it almost hitting my wife's new car. The one she likes. Alot. |

You know, I've never really thought about it, but I have never had a problem with picking up my bikes after a drop. Sportster - picked it right up while still straddling it. X1 - picked right up after pausing for a second going "wow, that was dumb" XB9R - picked it up in the grass after track lowside with no issues Now don't get me wrong, I'm not braging (especially not about dropping my bikes), but it must just be a technique thing because anyone that knows me knows I'm not a big guy. Try to find something to practice with, it could be well worth the time to be able to pick it up in an emergency situation. |

Your frame didn't get damaged at all? Did you have pucks or sliders? |

My old Ducati 900SS fell off its side stand a few years back. It was idling in the driveway as I was securing my helmet. (I have always hated the side stands on Ducatis.) I turned around just in time to see it fall. Wet weight was about 430 pounds. I think I was a svelte 170 at the time. I tossed that thing up no problem, must have been the adrenalin. I didn't even give it a thought, just threw it up. As i recall it was mostly my legs that got it upright again. I put my chest against the tank while gripping the bars, then used a forward motion with my legs. |

I picked mine up 2 of the 3 times. 1st time i was in a ditch and an off duty officer helped we roll it out, the bike was technically upright, but it was in a ditch. 2nd time in a parking lot by myself with a bleeding knee that had a torn meniscus(I found this out in the ER). Adreneline really helped here, had to make sure my baby was ok. 3rd time i fell over waiting to pull out of a parking lot, hit the gas on a cold tire, it spun and spun out from under me. This was an easy one to pick up b/c no one saw and i needed to keep it that way |
