I've been thinking of which mount to purchase for my 12R, and I was wondering if you guys had any idea which type would be better. There are 2 unused mirror attachments on the handlebar that could probably be used, but I'm concerned with the vibrations. I've also looked at a "Euro Mount" (http://www.techmounts.com/products/index.php?page_ function=detail&product_id=97), but I'm not sure what the size is. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul |

It's gonna vibrate no matter how you mount it. That euro mount looks as good as any I've seen. Mine's homemade from two different mounts, the base from one, and the platform from another. Attached to the top triple with some industrial strength double sided foam backed tape. I use it for my gps or radar detector depending on what I'm doing.

Is that an "EZPass" type toll tag on the gas cap? If so, how well does it work there? |

Speaking of which, I just had to call the EZPass people to update my account - total morons. AFter making changes I logged on to check my account and they had most of my information incorrect. |

I have been very pleased with the Ram mounts I purchased. They are stable, have flexible applications, and good fit and finish. I don't think they are very expensive overall and even less so if you look at the fact that all of the parts are interchangeable. I have a mount for my camera that will also work for a GPS. The only thing I have to change is the top mount. The arm and base are the same. So for less than $40 bucks, I have two model specific mounts that fit perfectly. |

It's the FasTrak toll transponder for our California toll roads and bridges. I get a discount everywhere for using it instead of cash. I mounted it there so I wouldn't forget it when I get off the bike. Somebody takes it and it can get very expensive very quickly. Also, the Calfornia Vehicle Code clearly states that the transponder must be in plain view from "outside" the vehicle. I used to carry it inside my tank bag.... *BAM* got a $141 ticket. No fighting that one either. Sucks. My homebuilt mount cost about $20 total and is adaptable to a range of accessories, due to the fact that it was actually two separate units I grafted together. So I have spare parts for this and that. It works, was cheap, and I was basically just impatient, needed something on that day, and was able to put something together. I've seen a lot of mounts I'd like to have, but hey this works so what the heck. |

Does anyone know what the size is of the top of the fork so I can buy the Euro Mount? Is it 50, 51, or 53mmm? Did you glue the Pass to your gas cap? Seems like a good idea, as I lost my EZ pass on the PA turnpike last week. Maybe I should do the same to mine. Thanks for the help. Paul (Message edited by BueAddicted on November 18, 2006) |

velcro would probably be the way to go for the ez-pass type of thing. easy to remove when you get off the bike, or if you need fuel. |

Yeah, the FasTrack already has the soft side of the velcro on it, so I just put two squares of the hooked side on either side of the gas cap. Works great. |

I mounted mine to the open mirror boss (quest on a 9sx). I fabbed up a *very* simple angle piece of metal to get the right angle, and bolted the particular Ram mount for a Quest to that. It ended up nice and cheap, like $19 for the quest snap cradle, reused the power jack connector from the Quest AC adapter, and free old chunk of metal (from a hinge I think). Some vibration at particular RPMs that is a little alarming. Mounting it softer (I am thinking some rubber isolatoin) and further inboard on the handlebars would likely help reduce vibration. That will be a winter project. |

Did a little searching for mounts last night, and found some really cool ones...Like this: Then I scroll down and see the price $130, $150, $170.... *ouch* I like my mount a lot better now. |

Pwnzor: Yeah, I saw those too... they must be crazy, or those mounts are coated in some kind of platinum/pallidum anti-rust/microbial/vibration proof material...

They have a different platform for PDA's that's the radar mount. |

I DO want that radar detector in the pic, though! I've wanted a Valentine 1 for years, but they're freakin' expensive. My $400 (used to be $500!) would be better spent on a whole list of other things. ~SM |

I need a good solution for mounting my Escort Passport 8500XP50 too. I did have a replica windscreen from a 1957 Royal Enfield mounted and just used the rubber suction cup mount, but then I installed the Crossroads bars and now the windscreen won't fit anymore. Currently I am using a piece of heavy duty velcro glued to the master cylinder cover. It works fairly well, but I have to reach up there and squirm the detector back down on it intermittently when it starts to catch air. The problem with the windscreen is that the new master cylinder mount position is closer to the bugshield where the side of the windscreen used to be. I considered notching it to accommodate the master cylinder, but think this would look like crap. So now I'm thinking about one of those fancy new windscreens off Darkhorse and a handlebar mount of some kind. |

Not Darkhorse; it was Hillbilly Motors. |

PWNZOR! WHAT!?! How did you get a ticket for that!?!?!?!?! I never, EVER, carry my FasTrak on the bike, as my plate is on file and have never had an issue on the 241, 73 or 91. How'd you get popped? I want to look in to that because something is not right about that ticket. What a bunch of horse sh!t. --Sean |

Found it! http://www.thetollroads.com/home/common_fastrak.htm I drive a motorcycle; do I have to pay a toll? And can I use FasTrak? Motorcycles pay the same toll as a two-axle vehicle when using The Toll Roads. Motorcyclists can use FasTrak to pay by keeping the transponder in a secure location, such as on the vehicle or in a pocket or bag. --Sean (Message edited by thespive on November 22, 2006) |

My $400 (used to be $500!) would be better spent on a whole list of other things. Get popped for 4 tickets in 9 months at $125 each, and $500 is very cost effective. I did however learn how the points system in TN works. I guess that is useful knowledge is some sort of way. |
