So, my drunken ass of a brother comes over last night after I went to bed. He goes outside to have a smoke and falls into my bike, leaving it on it's right side all night! After telling how stupid he was for not waking me upwe picked it up. It starts and is running but, aside from the broken mirror what should I worry about? Fouled plugs? Scary unknowns? I remember hearing or reading something that can happen if your bike lays for too long.

Has this happened to anyone?

Thanks

If it runs well now, there was no real damage done to the plugs.
Check your oil levels to make sure you didn't lose any.
You should be good to go.

Word to that Ft_bstrd.

Thanks Old_man too.

I actually just gave it a rev and the damn thing rev'ed higher a little bit AFTER I let go of the throttle. Weird. I guess he's buying a new mirror and throttle assembly.

And maybe a little rehab! ;)

The real danger is if the bike runs for a long time laying on ts side. Engine off its not that big a deal.

on carb'd bikes you could end up with fuel in the crank case in such an incident, be
happy your bike is injected : )

I wish I could just have a beer. I had to hang it up almost eight years ago. I said goodbye to ol' Mr Boozarino in order to avoid other bad habits. You could call it a sacrifice as I never had a drinking problem.

Relax? Yes, I think I will. Thanks!

Rubdoggy, you might wanna' let the dealer check out the inside of the throttle cable assembly (or do it yourself). Mine had a busted piece of plasting in there that was allowing the cables to bunch irregularly, which made the throttle a bit unpredictable. That odd revving you experienced might be a symptom of a broken housing.

I have two brothers and the only people that can get away with giving any of us a fat lip is another one of us. (Yes, they both grew up and could easily give me a fat lip). I doubt if knocking over my bike would qualify though... maybe

You are correct Hdbobwithabuell,

But he definitely deserved more crap than I gave him(none really). He's a constant F'up with things. He never grew up and that's coming from a guy who never grew up! If you knew him you might think a good punch would be a service. In my family we just shake our heads when he does stupid stuff. I love him though, I have no choice he's my brother. And he was very very sorry.

I can still yell ARRRRRRRGH! I feel better now, thanks guys!

When I bought my bike, it was on its side for who knows how long on that stupid stand. They just made sure all fluids were full before starting it.

Most important, make sure that the radiator has enough water.

Don't forget to check your blinker fluid too. Just open the knuteson valve and fill it up.

Most people forget that simple bit of maintenance.

It is second only to muffler bearings going out due to lack of lubrication for causing
down time.

To be fair muffler bearings are a little harder to access on a Buell, but a left handed
screw driver makes the job a lot easier.;)

Do you need a metric or SAE left handed screwdriver? I forget which one I have...

Although, if anything has a muffler bearing, an XB12 would. I don’t know the breakdown of that valve thing.

On the Buell the muffler bearing requires an SAE left handed screwdriver.

The knuteson valve is right on top of the blinker fluid fill.
You can't top it off without opening the valve so you need to get familiar with it.

Be sure to use water wetter i your radiator too. It will improve the efficiency.
