well i wrecked the bike today i was coming around a blind right 90 following my buddy who was on a vrod...he was about 10 links ahead of me...came around the turn doing about 60 and there was a steel grate single lane bridge..i new i didnt have enough room to straighten the bike up and hit the brakes and i new the bike could make the turn so i leaned it over the bike made the turn just fine..the problem was the oil slick on the road right before the bridge...front tire slid out i started to lo side but the front tire then hit the guard rail and snapped the bike up straight...i groudn up against the left side of the bridge for about 10 feet and then the bar caught a steel i beem and the bike slammed hard into the bridge on the right side...me and the bike slid on the steel grate for about 50 ft......after the carnage i got up and realized that i must have smacked my left arm on the ibeem because my alpine star leather on my left arm was thrashed and the plastic was cracked but i didnt even have a scrach on my arm(400.00 dollar jacket did its job)..i walked away with only a cut up right knee and some cuts on my left shin....i am a little banged up and bruised but 60 m/h slide on a steel grate bridge i did pretty good....the bike however didnt fare as well frame needes to be replaced ... rear swing arm is scraped all to hell.... my frame slider caught in the grate and just ripped off along wtih my blinkers fron and rear brake leavers and lower belt gaurd.. the rear subframe is bent all the mirrors and lights need to be replaced... front facia and rear seat plastic...headlight bezil headlight.. i think the insurance company is going to total it... i am sad but atleast i am here to tell about it. PLEASE I CAN AD TO THE PEOPLE WHO PREACE NOW..MY JACKET SAVED MY ARM...WEAR YOUR GEAR...THANK YOU ALPINE STAR (Message edited by yellowbolter on November 11, 2006) |

Sorry to hear about your wreck. I'm glad you made it out in one piece. How did your buddy make the turn and not crash? Maybe he was going slower. What was the speed limit for that corner? Who left that oil in the road? |

Glad you made it out with few injuries! Any crash you can walk away from is a good one! Stuff can be replaced. You can't. |

Dude... glad you came out alright. How did your Ti-Force exhaust hold up? Did it get mangled or is it still usable? They're pricey, save it if you can. |

Which Alpinestars jacket was it? I am going to order the SMX Airflow jacket and the track pants. Dealer pricing is a wonderful thing. I have crashed in my Vector suit, and I am more then satisfied with Alpinestars crash worthiness. Popping your cherry early on is probably a good thing. This way you don't start thinking that you are invincible, and that you will never crash. I only "play" on the roads that I know pretty well. It is best not to try to keep up with the rider in front of you if you are not familiar with the road. |

WTF..you walked away from that!!! SWEEEET!!!! Glad you are still with us. Sounds like it could have been the death of you without gear on. Steel bridge will eat flesh in a minute. Good on you for wearing your gear!! WANNA SELL THAT EXHAUST if it is still usable? |

Nice jacket. I tried one on the other day to get my proper size (wow, I am smaller then I thought). I didn't like how the armor fit on the elbows, but I have been told by Alpinestars that the armor on the jacket that I am ordering fits like that on my Vector suit. By the way, I have a set of Dainese P103 pants for sale. They are in perfect shape. Size 56 euro. Too big for me. If you know anyone interested, email me. |

Crashing sucks! Surviving a crash like that rocks! Thanks for sharing yet another reminder for the rest of us concerning the ever-present danger of riding aggressively on public roads and the benefits of protective gear. Hope you heal well and quickly. |

Very glad to hear that you made it out OK. You will ride another day. Interesting about the grated bridge, I would think that that would be like running a slab of cheese (your body) over a cheese grater (the bridge). |

Yellowbolter First - congratulations on chosing to ride with good gear! Since you want your old bike back - ask the insurance folks what they'd take on a salvage bid and make them an offer. You might be surprised at how cheap you can pick the bike up for - and then you will have your NEW Buell plus your original bike. Sometimes it's nice having a scratched up bike to ride. Amazing how many questions you'll answer about where'd you pick up those dents and scratches. You get some "credibility" at the Starbucks. Most insurance companies end up getting estimates on replacing every piece with even a scratch on it... that's why you often hear about bikes being totalled when they really are rideable after replacing controls, turn signals and maybe a fork tube. That's also how a lot of trackbikes get started! |

Glad you stayed in one piece even if your bike didn't! I'm also glad you are so anxious to get another Buell and back to riding. ATGATT, it's not just a good idea...It's a VERY GOOD IDEA |

I use a TZ1 also and really like it. It’s real comfortable in the riding position. I usually ride with jeans, but never ride without the jacket. I’m glad to hear it worked well in your crash. I hope I don’t have to test mine, lol. |

commiseration yelowbolter, did my Uly in last week as well, and not even at the speed you did, mine was at about 30kmh,not a real lot of what I would call damage, but was written off never the less. Waiting for the new one to arrive as soon as insurance is settled. |
