Does anyone know if the Racing Red is a new color for the 07 9R, or was it available on 06 models too? Gary |

OK, 2nd question. Does anybody know if the 06/07 airbox covers(the colored part) will fit an earlier model XB? I notice that they now draw air in thru the grille behind the fuel filler cap. Is there a fitment issue? |

they fit but you will not have the benefit of the intake w/o changing the inner airbox cover, and if you do that - be aware that the ECM on the new bikes are remapped to the new intake. You may want to change that too - someone will chime in on that eh? |

Thanks for the responses 99. Now, here's what I'm thinking of doing. I'd love to convert my lightning to a firebolt(minus the tailsection) and I've got my eye on this racing red color. I know that the front fender, muffler/chin piece, and now the airbox cover will just bolt on, but what's involved in putting the "R" fairing on it? I know about the top tree & the magnesium IP bracket. Can I get away with leaving all my wiring alone since my ECU & diagnostic pigtail is under my seat? Must I move the keyswitch or will it be ok where it is. And lastly, are the inctrument clusters interchangeable or do they mount differently? If they are different what does a person do about conflicting mileages. (I'm assuming that the odometer reading stays with the cluster right?) Thanks, Gary |

Dont change your guages, they are the same. I have not done this swap, but have heard that it is fairly straight-forward. You will need to mount your key somehow (like drill a hole in the new mag. mount) Someone with more info may chime in, or you should try the Google BadWeb feature at the top of the page. Try keywords like lightning firebolt conversion, or lightningbolt, stuff like that. Good luck |

So I've been scouring the internet for "R" body panels an in particular 07 racing red panels. I found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BUELL-XB12R-FIRE-BO LT-BODY-PLASTIC-KIT_W0QQitemZ220049411614QQihZ012Q QcategoryZ35560QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It's everything I need and no tail piece which I don't need! But the seller says it's from an 06 and its racing red. Is this correct? 06 racing red? the pictures in that auction do look a bit brighter than the 07 racing red that I've seen in buell literature, but it could just be the flash from the camera or it could be an optical illusion caused by the gold colored emblems( 07's have black emblems). What do you guys think? is it the same color? (Message edited by garyl on November 14, 2006) |

Sorry if my first response to your question is confusing you. Racing Red on a 9R is new for '07, but there has been Racing Red available on the 12R since '04. |

Sorry if my first response to your question is confusing you. Racing Red on a 9R is new for '07, but there has been Racing Red available on the 12R since '04. Yes that IS what confused me. I suppose I did word the original question wrong. What I meant to ask was: Is Racing Red a new color for the 07 R, or was it available on 06 models too? Thanks Again, Gary |
