I installed the Buell race kit on my bike about 5 months ago. During an oil change last week I could not get the bolts out of the chin fairing because they are rusted into the race muffler. Any suggestions on how I can keep this rust to a minimum? Any suggestions on what to use on the bolts to break them loose? Thanks guys. |

Impact wrench should make short work of removing rusty bolts. |

When I get around to it my race exhaust is coming off, getting sanded down, cleaned then treated with hi-temp exhaust spray coating. I did my girls before I installed hers and i think I like it. It should hold up to rusting better than a non coated exhaust. Thats is the one major draw back to the underslung exhaust.... The front tire kicks up road junk onto the muffler and water also settles on it. |

anti/seize on the threads(or a liberal coat of loctite) will keep the rust from being a problem on those fasteners !! |

I use blue threadlocker on the fasteners and haven't had any problems. Admittedly, she is garage kept and almost never ridden in the rain, but I still think the threadlocker helps. Plus, I always like it when I look down there and find that the fasteners are still there, which wasn't the case on one of them when I forgot to use the threadlocker once. |

I just removed my race can as well. Though my bolts weren't seized (used sealant), there were signs of rusting beginning - where the straps were on the muffler. To prevent this, use loctite, or a thread sealant. I was told the mufflers (polished ones anyways) were JetHot coated. If they are indeed coated by them, don't they stand behind their product and offer free re-coating? |

Brine they have the 03 style that were flat in color and indeed were prone to discolorment and rust. If you see any rust on the (shiney) Jet Hot coated one it would most likely start in the nooks and cranny's of the muffler where welds are. |

I'm seeing signs of rust beginning in the area (while mounted) between the can and the straps. Will Jet-Hot just redo? |

Doubtful on the redo, but may be worth arguing ahem....suggesting. |

I've got almost three years on my race can, with no signs of rust anywhere. Of course my baby sleeps inside every night. She complains when the waterbed temperature isn't just right. |

I would say that Jet-Hot would not do a free re-coat for you. This was a factory job, not a Jet-Hot job. As in you didn't take it to them to get coated. It's like when you buy a computer from Dell, if you have a problem you go to Dell, not the manufacturer of the component. |

It's like when you buy a computer from a middleman, if you have a problem you go to the middleman, not the manufacturer of the component. ya ya.... Hey Matt... I keep mine inside as well, I can't control when she calls my name... sometimes it's raining a little. It's not actual rust, yet, it's just a slight discoloration. I gently sanded the discolored area, and polished it right back up to original luster - good as new! Then again.. it probably rains where I am, more than where you are located... just a hunch.. |

Yeah... maybe just a bit. Although it did rain right out of nowhere on Saturday night. She's whining at me right now... "my seat is cold... come warm me up... just around the block, pleeeeease...?" |

After you get the rust off is there anything you can use to protect it from happening again. I have had mine since april and its rusting already. I was thinking of using nevr dull. |

Click here to check it out. Eagle One Nano-Polish I've discarded all my other polishing compounds. Also works great to get swirls out of plastics, I no longer need to buy a new windscreen. Works great all over the bike. (Message edited by pwnzor on November 13, 2006) |
