I have read a few disses of this bike in mag articles and on this board. Isn't this the same bike as the regular XB9S that turned buell around? What are the differences if any? What the pros and cons of the bike? | ||

CityX is a variant of the Lightning model. It's a badass little bike setup to do just what its name says, get you around the city! I think of it as a BMX bike with street tires, suitable for halfpipe duty! | ||

Yes.....Differences are taller seat, dirt bike looking handlebars, different tires, hand guards, headlight guard, transparent body work, black wheels......what did I miss ? I have the regular XB9S with the race package, zero issues with 8,000 miles. It's a really-really fun bike to ride ! | ||

The City X seem to be no more than a few different parts here and there, otherwise it seems to be just like any other Lightning XB-9 You get a tall seat,(with extra padding) taller bars, clear plastic body work (looks cool) black wheels, hand guards and buff looking headlight protector snap-on thing. Otherwise it's just about the same bike. Bumblebee's opinion: The problem with the press is that you get one man's opinion about the bike. You don't know what pretense the tester had when the bike was "tested" also the actual riding time is often very limited; a week loan of the bike is not uncommon. During this week the bike is ridden, photographed and performance tested on the track and on a dyno. So, what color was it again? Often these testers although Red Hot Racers, may have limited real life riding experience using a bike on a day to day basis. So when a slick motomag gives a glowing review to may be applicable to use at the race track, for everyday use on the street it may not be desirable at all. How many of us use our bikes exclusively at the track? All I can say, if all I went on what what the press said about the CityX I never would have bought one. I am glad that I did, because the bike is fantastic. | ||

The 9sx has a seat that puts it significantly higher then the 9s, which is significantly higher then the 9sl. The "Handguards" are quite functional. I had a very comfortable 18 mile highway commute to work this morning with my normal summer gloves and no grip heaters, and standing ice and frost on the road, grass and cars. That would not have been possible without the handguards. The box will become marred with even the lightest of gas splashes, and it scratches fairly easily. That being said, it will all polish out to an almost new finish while I sit comfortably on the recliner watching a single DVD. My black powdercoating on the wheels seems to be chipping pretty easily. Don't know if this is just my wheels, or a larger issue. As it is black, they are easy to touch up and look fine from "normal standing distance". The older 9sx's were the only Buell to come with the Scorpoin Syncs, which are (IMHO) the best tire ever shipped on any Buell. I think all the Buells come with them new now. I like mine.  | ||

I love my 06 City X . It is my first Buell(moved up from a Ninja 600R).Just put it away for the winter but rode over 7000kms my first season. Fun ,comfortable and got looks where ever I went. People where always coming up to me to ask questions and look it over since Buells are very rare around here. Never had I single problem , great tires. This bike loves the curves and performs great. I can only hope for an early spring. | ||

My ONLY complaint as listed in a recent post is the seat height. If you are under 5' 10" or if flat-footing is important to you, you might want to consider a different model. that said, I love this bike for all the reasons previously stated. As far as attention, I have a buddy that bought a Hayabusa at the same time. Not ONCE has someone come up to us and asked about his 'Busa. My little Buell gets all the attention. I almost feel bad for my buddy as I can hear him thinking "WTF?". Glad he is an easygoing type....You can't go wrong with any Buell. | ||

I agree with Fresno. I'm 5'-7" and the height of the CityX takes a little getting used to, but it's worth it. Great fun on two wheels. Find somewhere you can get a test ride and see what it feels like to you. Of course after saying that, I realize that I bought mine after just sitting on a buddy's bike and hearing him talk about it. Oh well, it's been fun ever since. | ||

Love my city.. Like any buell if isn't setup properly for your weight your not going to get a good ride.. Love the way this bike revs... | ||

I would say if it's too tall you dont necessarily need to look to a different model, a few inches of height are removable as easily as changing the seat. Takes all of 30 seconds. Also, the handlebars are the same height as the other Lightning models, they just have a cool looking dirt bike style cross bar. The CityX is the best riding 9S made, the larger fork diameter made a definate improvement in it's compliance over bumps and the thickly padded seat makes it easy to rack up the miles. Great bike. Oh, and I also second the notion that the tires were a great choice. | ||

I drove an xb12S last week for two days, replacement bike from the dealer, and it was really lower than my city-x (I was flat-footing instead of tiptoeing). Did check the suspension and had 5 click. so ... | ||

Something has hasn't been mentioned. The citx actually makes a decent touring bike. The tall seat, and cushy padding make 500+ mile days easy. In the city the tall seat is a big +. I can see over most traffic (short of large SUVs). Some people have complained about the stock seat hight, I have a 32in. inseam and it fits me perfectly. Another point is the insurance companies do not quite know what to make of it. That can be a good thing, or a bad thing depending on where you live. They do not see it as a full supersport (as a xb12 is), nor do they see as a standard. Best of all, if you decide to customize your bike. You will have offers up the wazzu for your airbox X (tank bag protector). Those things seem to be worth gold... | ||

Insurance is cheap($715 a year full coverage). I do more highway riding on my City X than city riding (100kms a day just to go to work)and it works great on the highway. And it is fun whipping through city traffic, I get a lot of people checking out my bike at the stop lights. The seat height and riding position took a little bit to get use too (after moving up from a Ninja) but now I like it and I only 5'8" | ||

I also bought mine after a demo ride. Owned a bmw r80st for 16 years, after the ride I couldn't get the sx off my mind. I bought the tank bag and luggage, now I have a slice n dice touring bike! | ||

To my amazement, my current 9sx was a far better touring bike then my M2 was. It just worked, with no drama. Luggage was a bit of a challenge, it could have been addressed by the soft side bags. A waterproof small duffle and a lot of bungee hooks worked OK, but was a bit of a bother to get on and off. | ||

I am only 5'8 and loved the stock seat height, but I have since replaced with a Corbin for comfort (the stocker hit my pressure points wrong), but amazingly enough the seating position is about the same. You see, the stock seat is so soft that you sink down almost to where the Corbin holds you. I just wish it were easier to keep the translucent body scratch free. It would be cool if it came from the factory with a clear coat. Court? Anony? --Sean | ||
