Are the fork seals different on a 2004 XB12R model versus 2005 and later XBR models? I have a part number of J8127.3A8 for 2005 and a J8128.3A8 for 2007. But I can not locate a number for a 2004 model. Anyone know for sure if the 2005 part number will work on a 2004?

Ok, I just located the fork seal part number for a 2004 XB12S model. It is J8127.02A8, but is not listed under the R model, only S. So I would assume the forks on all 2004 models are the same except for the low models. Looks like 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 all use different part number seals (keep this in mind when ordering or changing the fork fluid). I am hoping the 2004 S model seals are the same for a 2004 R model.

Interesting, very interesting! One could become very confused.

At least I thought so.

I think 03,04 and 05 S , R , and the cg models are all the same from 03 to 05

05 S and R models and up ( not cg ) are different larger dia.

I may be wrong but check it out...

The SCG "low" models use a HD part number.

2005 cg models as far as I know are the same as 03, 04 and the 05 cg models not sure about the 06 and up cg models ,But I think they are the same as 03,04, and 05 cg parts, unless sometimes buell may use a new Dist. or an updated seal better quality etc. perhaps but the same id. and od. I think...
But 05 and up regular R and S models went with larger tubes so different size seals etc. and also they may have changed Dist. for them as well But as far as I know same size tubes o5 and up ..

Actually all of the buells are switching to the HD soft tail fork seals, or at least thats how I understand it.

Yeah, I had ordered 05 seals for my 04 thinking there were the same. Got them in and noticed it was a no go. Needed the 04 S seals. XB12R is not listed under 2004 models for some reason, so I cross referenced to S model and its a go.

On a side note.... I was going to use the HD Screamin Eagle "performance fork fluid", but decided against it. The service manual clearly states "type E" ONLY. I do not want to compromise the handling in anyway so I ditched the SE performance oil and used standard type E fork fluid.

Hogs......The SCG is the only one with a HD part number. All the others are Buell part numbers.

'04 forks are 43mm and '05 forks are 45mm.

Pwnzor,
Thats correct as I see it ... Except the 05 Cg models and perhaps 06,07 cg models are the same as 03,04 regular R and S models= smaller tubes...
