Well guys what I want to see for the new 2008 models is a Ecm like alot of the japs bikes have now Warriors for one that you can go into your ecm by just removing one wire and then your dash becomes a trouble code unit, To read codes, and the main thing is that NOW you can also add fuel or subtract fuel etc. for each cylinder through the simple buttons on the dash.. Now if the Japs can do it why not Buell... By the way the Ecm is of the same size as the Buells, it could be as a stock unit with the bikes, or as a RACE use only that one could buy just like the race ecms ya can buy now and could be labeled as OFF ROAD USE ONLY.... Tell me why Buell cannot do this like the metric bikes I`m all EARS...!!! As I for one love to change things power wise guess one could say its a hobby sort of thing or past time whatever, Like I want now to go to a Big Bore 1500 with all the extras etc.etc. With this fuel system we have now We are limited to say the least as I know of no one out there with XB12 that has gone with either the 1450/1500 kit etc.etc and I have been following the forums... Seems the fuel system ( ECM ) at this point cannot do what need. All this talk of big bores etc are in my opinion a waste of time IF we cannot control it for the big bore jobs etc. Now flame me if ya want, perhaps that will help Buell to wake up to this...! Remember I`m talking Big Bore 1450/1500..! I Love my xb12r with the mods I have now and would never trade it for a water Buffalo HAve at it...! |

Trouble codes are readily available from the dashboard display of all XB models by jumping the #1 and #2 pin on your diagnostic plug. I keep a copy of the list in my tool kit under the seat. The ability to make adjustments would be nice I suppose, but my bike runs tight so I can't imagine using it personally. Would still be a good selling point to have that versatility. |

Pwnzor, Yes you are right on that, and was aware of that, but on the warrior still has a better display... I guess I should add my main beef is With the Fuel system ECM. (Message edited by hogs on October 29, 2006) |

Shazzam has been running a 1440 for a couple of years now on the street with a Force Pipe. While the stock ECM won't keep up, there are ways to make it happen, if the throttle body is bored out, and larger injectors are used (Terry P is working on this right now). A LOT of racers are using 1400cc+ motors with the ECM that is available through Henry Duga (If you're a racer) Fueling with that ECM is tricky, but it is something that can be done. Direct Link is a great tool for modifying the fuelling on street bikes. Al L and Terry P in particular have been burning the midnight oil building a database of maps for different combinations. Sure, it would be nice if there was an easier, more user friendly way to access trouble codes. However you do not want to make it too easy to access fuel parameters. It is very easy to toast an engine if you make a small mistake and it goes even a tiny bit leaner than it runs stock. Sometimes it is better to keep the layman and benchracers' fingers out of things Not inferring you are in either category Hogs, just a general rule based on what I've seen people do with access to power commanders etc...on bike nights (or at Mother's on Palomar) |

YEs , Diablobrain, I agree with what you are saying in some respects there, However I am no racer so have no access to that, and what I have been told its a more or less DOS system and who the heck wants to go there, Not I, when you are referring to that ecm that the racers only use... Its no different than with carbs and performance if one jets small too lean and burns up a piston etc. no one to blame but themselves, and on the other side of the coin if ya jet fat and wash the cyls. down etc, once again thats ones own plm. All these years HD> and BUell up to the late ninty`s had carbs. and one could do what they wanted, NOW with epa etc. no more of that and if one wants the Big Bore and I`m talking just the 1400 and up then one is left out in left field etc. as NO one has up to this point master it, don`t care what anyone says...YEs I know AL and Terry are burning the candle and BY god I hope they don`t put it out until they get it LoL Its just strange that these big bore kits have been out for the 12`s for a couple of years now and no one has done anything for them . I have been watching this forum and others and seen ppl. build them and not satisfied at all once again I`m only talking about the 1400 more so the 1450 and now the 1500 kits... Guess why put that out there if one can`t use it yet. MAn If I could throw a carb, on this baby with ease it would be there now,A Nice S&S unit all my troubles wd. be over , no plms. with a BIG bore then, just this damn fuel system/ecm I`ll keep making noise hope more listen and make changes I guess , Damn I got a few years left maybe in my life time I will see it, as far as my xb12r HA, its the best damn bike out there for me...But I want to make it bigger more Torque more FUN... Once again all the best of it to Terry and AL, I have been talking to them as well, and others, but these maps are good for certain pipes, etc. but still mostly still just for the xb12 and xb9 not much good for what I am talking about... ( big Bores ) for those that want them and they are out there.... Was at a Buddys shop the other day, and they installed a couple of power commanders on a couple of HD`s 2006 models, man they were too simple its all there for mods etc. etc, even on the 06 with dual 02 sensors like all the HD have now with the power commanders you plug the 02 sensors off no longer use them, Thats neat of Course they have different sensors for reading info.. Well maybe its not too late for a big change for ERIK LoL to have his friends to do something Big for us all in 2008 with regards to a NEW and Improved ECM for all of us tuners who want to play.... |

Yes, the Kimball (race) software is DOS based, and a pain in the butt to deal with, but until Direct-Link came out this year it was the best thing going for a High performance Buell. I too hope for a nicer interface and more intuitive software, but I don't really expect it to be available soon at any price I can afford 2008 should be a big year for Buell. 25th anniverseray and all. After all the XB came out for 03..... |

IF. Buell was to go to water cooling for the next generation I would still expect the XB line (or parts of it) to remain in the line-up for at lease a while if not indefinitely. There are after all still a lot cross-over sales from harley riders. |

IMHO if you have to run an electric cooling fan you might as well go water cooled if you can keep it light. |

I do not think that we will see water cooling next year. It will happen eventually, but not next year. I am thinking more along the lines of an XBRR type streetbike, bigger cubic inches, hopefully around 120 horsepower. |

Well 120 Hp. wd. be nice, However I can`t see that happening on a stock production bike from Buell, as one just has to go back and look over the past, and see what Erik has got out of these for the past 6 , 8 years or so,You have to keep in mind IF he wants to give a 2 year wheel to wheel warranty and has not come anywheres close to those numbers in the past I don`t think you will see it on the floors SORRY... Not saying that one could not get the 120 HP. with mods, but ya won`t see it as a production bike thats my .10 cents Now A detune Xbrr with the options to build,.... a GOOD ECM available and forget the warranty you won`t have any that is possible or I think it SHOULD be from Buell... |

Blake, I think 120 RWHP wd. be GREAT even 110 wd. be great for a Production XB since the metric 600`s are what 120 ( 105 ) or less and think of the mods that could be done to that to get a simple 10 more or so we are taking RWHP what do we have now 84 -90 stock.. If he could do that and be dependable for his warranty concerns MAN that wd. be FAROUT ,not sure the aftermarket fellas wd. like it at the moment until they get back up to speed... But thats how Buell could keep ahead of them and sell their parts etc. 110 RWHP and say 100 lbs. RWTorque MAN think about thattt...!!!!!!!!!! REally with a 1300/1350 and that new fuel Thottlebody and a GOOD ECM why is that not possible for them??? |

"the main thing is that NOW you can also add fuel or subtract fuel etc. for each cylinder through the simple buttons on the dash.." That would probably necessitate the addition of air injection and catalytic converters. The added fuel has to get burned somehow and it it doesn't get burned in the process of combustion, it would need to burn in a cat. I'd hold off on this particular wish list item until I was able to experience first hand how it works and what the effects are on a sport bike. |
