I'm planning a trip to the USA with the family next Spring or Summer and I need some advice on choosing a location which has entertainments for the family and access to a track for some trackday entertainment for me. Also does anyone know if it's possible to hire an XB for the track in the USA? All suggestions welcome. A nearby Hooters would also be a bonus. |

Hooters is easier than the Buell rental! The Southern California tracks which are within easy reach are: Fontana Buttonwillow Willow Springs (Streets of Willow is in the same complex) Finding a track day operator who is running a track day when you plan to be in the area might be a little tougher. There are many of them who operate on one or more of those tracks: http://www.trackexperience.com http://www.fastrackriders.com http://www.trackdaz.com http://www.hypercycle.com/hclub_info.htm Willow Springs offers a Friday track day on race weekend (race is always the 3rd Sunday each month - not always the 3rd weekend) |

Hmmm.. If you're coming to the East Coast - Check out http://www.teampromotion.com They have rental bikes for track days. (no Buells - they used too have them but now feature Ducati)as well as full rental gear (except helmets I believe) for the track as well. They cover a good area, with track days spanning from VIR (Virginia International Raceway) to the brand new Callabogie in Canada. VIR is a personal favorite as it's a great place complete with a 'Lodge' you can stay in track side. Also, it's not too far to some nice historic places (Blue Ridge Parkway, Williamsburg etc.) only being a few hours away. On the West Coast, look into CLASS (3x AMA SBK Champ Reggie Pridmore) http://www.classrides.com they rent just about everything including Hondas at their California schools and it's a great day learning/riding. In the South Eastern US, try http://www.JennningsGP.com (Florida - Disney/Universal etc.)But don't offer any rental gear or rides that I know of. http://www.Schwantzschool.com (Schwantz has Suzuki's for you too ride) Lastly, check out http://www.roadracingworld.com/guide/detail/?guide code=schools&guide=2 for a pretty good list of schools and track day organizations across the US. As far as renting a bike from a regular rental place (dealer?) I think 'tracking' the bike would void your agreement and you may have just purchased a 'new' ride from them.. Let us know, after all, there are some multi-Buell households over here and maybe you can meet up with someone that has a 'spare' bike you can ride .. I'm sure some sort of deal could be reached.. Good luck.. |

Guys, Thanks for the quality information. The California Speedway (Fontana) looks to be the most convenient being close to Anaheim but the track looks a little dull (flat, wide and featureless) Road Atlanta looks like a great track though it's a bit of a journey from the Orlando area. Jennings looks interesting too. Any comments on the tracks would be welcome. I don't think I'll make the East Coast this time much as I'd love to ride the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah again - one of the most memorable rides I've experienced. Thanks again for the great info. p.s. one last question, I'm used to using sticky race tyres (not slicks) what sort of tyres do the trackday bikes use or can you specify (or supply) what you want? |
