Well, I thought I'd found the stuff I needed at American Sportbike to convert my blinkers over to running lights, but turns out that item is discontinued. Al suggested the Kisan Signalminder instead, but after surfing the Net for reviews, I want nothing to do with it. It's overly-complex for my needs, and way too many people are having problems getting them to work properly. I did a search here on the board, and all I came across was the Kuryakyn system. That's kinda' what I had in mind, but it sounds like the running light is at full brightness, which is not what I want.

All I'm looking for is a simple conversion kit that turns my blinkers into (approximately) 1/2 bright running lights. Is that so much to ask? I don't care if I have to change the sockets over to dual filament, just so long as it's got the right wires and instructions! There's a ton of 'em for Harley, but they're designed for specific models and have the proper plugs. I have no idea which might cross over, if any.

Help?!?!

I dont know about half bright, but full bright either blinker or running is easy enough!!

You will need the (+) side wires of the running light, IE tailight, and the positives of the blinkers.

If you wire running light positive (+) to both blinkers, replacing the ground wire, then the repective side (+) to the blinker (no change), then when the running lights are on and the blinkers are off, you get a steady solid light. Once the (+) side blinker provides power, the light bulb will go out, as there is now no ground, just positive (+) wires to the signals.

Been doing this in my cars for years to improve visibility during day and night driving. Just make DAM sure there are no grounds hooked up to any of the blinkers before checking operation, or by by fuses!!

Just something to think about, look it up on google, its out there!!

My friend installed the Kisan Signal Minder into his Ulysses. Three wires, and it works like a charm. Not sure what you've heard or why you think it's complicated...

Yeah SM-1 was real easy to install on my tuber M2, even for a 1/2 bright guy like me...

Also got it NIB on eBay for like $25, not a bad deal at all.

I don't think it's complicated, I think it's overly-complex for what I want. All I want are 1/2 bright running lights... I don't need automated signal shut offs and hazard lights and whatnot.

I read probably 5 or 6 reviews last night that people were having problems getting their Kisans to work. Granted, I don't know what models they were talking about, if there's more than one, and the posts were from last year. Also, no one explained the exact trouble, just the fact that they couldn't get it to work right.

For those Buellers out there that have installed the S1, can you rig up the running light function without all the other features?

I put the Kisan SignalMinder on mine to get the running lights and I really like it.

The install took less than 30 minutes and only consisted of plugging the new module in place of the flasher and then tapping the brake/indicator wires. I encased the new module in rubber foam and soldered my connections to cut down on vibration issues.

I didn't really care about the escort/hazard flashers either and I'm pretty good about remembering to turn off my signals, but the unit is pretty handy in case you forget.

It even comes with add-on springs for the switch so it returns to center when the unit shuts them off. It's also smart enough to not start the timer until you get off the brakes. That way it will flash indefinitely for those long lights and begins your countdown to turn off the signals once you pull out.

The auto-shutoff is time programmable, and you can choose two different brightness settings for the running lights.

I also installed the PathBlazer & TailBlazer kits. The PathBlazer does piss people off occasionally when you're behind them though. Luckily, they only work on high beams, so you can flip them off when needed. They also come with a light sensor to automatically disable the feature when it gets dark.

Also, you guys can convert your headlights to run both bulbs when on high beams by soldering a jumper in the switch from constant hot to the low beams. This is required for the PathBlazer kit.

Hey my name is Philip by the way. I've been reading ya'lls posts for awhile and would like to make some friends here. Don't know a soul that rides a Buell other than me. Anyone from Texas?

Kisan Signalminder was the way to go for me too. I wanted one for the same reasons. I bought it from AL two years ago. No problems since and it was fairly easy to install. Easy to change the settings once it is in as well.

Alright, well, you guys have convinced me, I think. Maybe I'll get a Kisan S1 after all. Tx05xb12s, thanks for all the info and tips!

Swordsman - Any time my friend. I've learned a lot lurking in here from you guys. It's time to start paying that debt. My bike wouldn't be half as cool or fast as it is today if I hadn't been learning from you. Besides, you guys are way more fun than reading the service manual. (-:

Hi Phillip. welcome to the badweb.
I am installing some 95 cent LED lamps inside the OEM turnsignal housing, using a 470 ohm resistor in series. the LED presses in to a 3/16" hole drilled in the plastic reflector. negative lead goes to the existing black turnsignal wire, positive goes to resistor and then resistor
has a about a 10 inch run to connect to the tail light hot wire.... I should have 5 bucks into the complete set of 4 lamps. will post up some pics in the Knowledge vault when finished. Dean

Fullpower - That's a pretty cool idea. It's especially cool since you're doing it for 5 bucks. The Kisan route is way more pricey than that. I'll look for your pics.

Okay, this response is way, WAY overdue, but I'm putting it here in case anyone runs across this thread using the Search and finds Rr_eater's trick to make the turn signals work as running lights.

It doesn't work. I tried it. Yes, it will make the turn signal light up solid, but when you flip the blinker switch, it doesn't blink. You just get a buzzing noise from up front, like a weak horn... I'm assuming it's a warning built into the flasher to let you know something is seriously screwed up (it does this when you disconnect all the blinkers and hit the switch also). So for posterity, don't bother.
