some possibl outcome differences are the positive outlook and the profesionalism on both sides make problems easier to deal with. Also the dealer was not afraid to ask for help from customer service. They also were very respectfulwhen i would come to them with sugestions from you all . They also were as frustrated as i was when the bike was acting up.they really wanted to help!!They also didnt ever ask for any money Ever!! They just did the best they could even when they were under pressure from me and customer service. I have had a good experience even with a bad problem .hopefully everything has been worked out and they are just being extra cautious. |

Ok last week i took the bike after they replaced the ignition switch . the factory didnt want me to take the bike until they replaced the whole harness but i needed the bike . Well today it bit me in the butt! i was riding home from work and stopped to run into the store . when i came out the bike would not start .I called and they are coming to get it tommorow . Really getting tired . Hopefully the harness getting replaced will solve the problems . I really like the bike and want it to work , but still i need to have a ride to work . Just venting the dealer is doing all they can just keeping you posted. |

See if they have a loaner they can give you from the rental fleet (if they rent bikes). Explain that you need the bike to get to work. It couldn't hurt. |

Beggars can't be choosers, but that is very cool for them to do that for you. Shows good faith! Props again to Antelope!!!!! ChadHargis got a loaner from Bumpus HD. I'm sure the HD parking lot dwellers got a kick out of him strapping on a full face and this:

On the losing faith topic, I'm a bit torn right now. I spent years ignoring HD product due to lack of power, handling, braking, and reliability (I know reliability has improved over the last 20 years). Along came Buell and I was fascinated from the beginning. I finally bought a very low mileage 1999 X1 used and had a number of problems including oil leaks, a totally screwed up air box design that would not seal, and had to pony up for the huge bracket to avoid broken header studs. The thing shook so bad at idle that parts literally fell off and all of the plastic cracked at the fasteners. Then I saw how great the build quality was on the XB series and had to have one. Again, I bought a very low mileage bike used. Now my tranny drive gear bearings crapped out at 6,000 miles, and I need to tear the entire engine down. I really love my bike, but feel very torn right now. This is a huge repair, and I am trying to decide if I should keep riding it afterwards or sell it and get someting that I believe will be more reliable. I know there are plenty of high mileage XBs out there, but my Buell experience has been very trying. I also have to compare it to my experience with used Japanese bikes, which has been pretty much flawless. That is my personal experience, with my personal time and money, period. Again, I love this bike and love riding it, but I feel like a bit of an idiot to keep tempting fate by continuing to ride it after such a huge repair at such low miles. I've been riding since the 80's and have never had to deal with issues like this. I don't have much free time, and I need to be able to hop on and ride, not do repairs and mods on a regualar basis to keep the bike on the road. I just feel very frustrated right now, It's like having lust for a girl that you believe deep down is going to let you down. Sometimes you should just go with the girl and enjoy the moment. Wow, I'm digressing now. |

I had an '86 FZ600 some years ago. I marveled at it's superior design and construction. The amazing speed and power were above par on all levels. But every time I turned my head, there went another one just like it. Had the same problem with my '84 GPZ550. Great bike, but dime a dozen. Both were super reliable. Buying the Buell was a huge leap of faith for me. It's only the second brand new bike I ever bought. I had heard numerous accounts of how unreliable they were, etc. But it was so different. When that '04 XB12R hit the showroom I was on top of it with cash in hand. *knocking on wood as I type this* No mechanical failures yet. I did have the one electrical issue the other day, but if I had checked the damn battery cable a little more closely I could have solved it on the spot. So far, so good. While the very minor issues I have had with the Buell are much worse by comparison with the myriad of jap bikes I have owned (i.e. perfect, never a single failure for any of them), I'll never give her up. Buy a used japper for your commute and take the Buell out on weekends. If you fix it, it should be better than new. Seems to me a lot of the XB problems I read about are in the 2003 model year. $0.02 |

Spatten, I'm sorry you are having to deal with your issues. It looks big and nasty from your other thread. I am concerned with buying a first year model. Cars tend to have more issues with first year runs. Motorcycles are no different. What I have seen is that the 03's seem to have more issues as they were a complete redesign. I am hoping that successive years have benefited from the "Joe Blow Beta Testing". I have an 06 Uly. We'll see. As an XB, it ain't the first XB. I'm taking the attitude that the best way to run through any potential gremlins is to ride the bike as much during the two year warranty as possible. I will assume that what is going to break, does during that period. Good luck. |

They even make mistakes on these latest models. I'm looking at the "Official Service Alert to All XB Owners" regarding the Torque Spec for Flywheel Sprocket as we speak. It is widely known that the torque specs on the drain plugs is wrong in the Uly manual. When a new model is introduced, there are variables that don't get vetted during the arduous testing process that come out in the real world. That's just the nature of mechanical things. I'm not saying that there is not concern with your XB, but I wouldn't paint all of them with the same brush. We just don't know. All that is academic. If it's YOUR bike that is sick, you don't care how many trouble free miles everyone else is getting. You want your baby well. That is completely understandable. Nurse her back to health and enjoy her while you can! |

Sub65 - we're nearly neighbors! AV are good folks in my opinion - but as you found out, sometimes it pays to be educated and take the initiative and work with them to get your problems resolved. Give me a shout sometime! Come out to Willow on race weekends, eat the burgers that our BRAG group provides on Sunday and hang out with us all. |
