is a 1 amp per hour charger ok to use on the 05 xb battery to trickle charge it? Or am I way off the mark on this? |

The 2003 XB9R owners manual states, "Trickle charge stored batteries once a month using a 2 Amp, 12 Volt trickle charger." A 1 Amp charger should be safe. |

Sure, as long as you don't leave it on indefinitely. 1-2 amps per hour is fine. |

I bought a "smart" 1.5 Amp charger at Wally World for like $12 this is good. I reads the battery voltage and shuts off when the battery is charged. Then starts again later if voltage falls. Has red and green LEDs so you can see what is going on. The Buell service manuals have a good little chart in them that shows how long you should leave fixed rate chargers of various ratings on the battery. A long slow charge at a lower amperage is better for/easier on the battery than a fast high rate charge. Jack |
