Ok I thought this was unbeleiveable. I just went in for my 1000 mile service at New Castle Harley in PA and I also had them put in my race ecm and adjust the tps. I was expecting to pay around $170 or so. It took longer than what they said. I kept walking by my bike and seeing it sit there all alone. I was starting to get pi55ed. Then I got the bill-$35.00. That's it. I couldn't believe it. Well at least I know where there is still a honest place to get some work done. They just charged me for parts and that was it. So it might be worth the trip if you're close to go there. I asked how much they would charge to put on a race kit. $100 Youngstown Harley in Ohio wanted $200-$250. So I told my wife I should be able to get more accessories because I saved so much money. She's thinking about it. |

"Well at least I know where there is still a honest place to get some work done" 35.00 for a complete 1000 mile check up and TPS reset for 35.00 had to be an honest mistake. Unless the 1000 mile service was worked into the sale? 35.00 for a TPS reset is about right. TPS check is part of the 1000 mile service so maybe they didn't charge you anything for that? How long did they work on your bike, actually work on it, not how long you were there. That will tell you if everything was done and checked per the service manual. The 1000 mile service should take 2 1/2-3 hours of the bike on the lift. |

The dealership told me they don't charge labor for the 1000 mile service. Just parts. It would of been more if I got synthetic. Everything is on my bill. Oil change, filter, Trans. fluid change, race ecm install and tps reset. All gaskets replaced. All inspections. I didn't even buy the bike from that dealership. Yeah you guys are jealous. HA HA Don't take it out on me. I would think it would sound fishy if they got me a female escort while I waited. I'm not sure how long that the mechanic worked on it but I got there around 10:10am and left around 1:00pm. Pretty cold at 9:15 this morning. 46 degrees. They told me hour and a 1/2 to 2 hours but it was longer. |

Well, I have my 1000 mile service scheduled for next Tuesday at Liberty HD, Rahway. If they had the race kit I would have it installed, but as is the case, all I'm going to ask is to change the oil to synthetic. I'll let you all know how it went - they have great guys there, and I did buy my 12R from them. |

I ended up just putting on my race muffler on last night and saving the ecm for them. $100 wasn't that bad for them to do it but I figured I might as well save some money cause I was expecting to pay at least $150 for the service. Good Luck |

Consider yourself lucky. My GF just had a 20,000 miles service done on her '99 X1. We bought the parts from Daves, and brought them to the shop with the bike. they damaged one of the isolaters trying to install it then told us it was that way when we gave it to them, yet you could see a distinct ring around the center of the isolater indicating it had been in the bike. They charged 3 hrs to change out the oil pump drive gear. I think that is about right. They charged an extra hour to put in the isolaters, and an extra hour to replace the steering bearings. Charged an hour to remove the stuck bolts on the right side footpeg bracket so they could get at the isolaters. She had an issue with the brake light not working intermittantly, and asked them to check it. They ran a jumper wire from the rear brake switch up to the tail light. (Is this what "trained" Buell techs do? I've found a wiring harness on eBay and will be replacing it this winter. All in all, she got out the door with her bike minus an ignition switch, (yea, that mysteriously took a crap while at the shop) for $1500. She is NOT happy and will definitly NOT be taking either of her bikes back to that shop for anything. Count your blessings... |

They don't charge labor for the 1000 mile service? And you didn't even buy the bike from them? Are they crazy or just trying to get themselves fired? If I was in charge I would fire them for doing that. I am glad you got the good deal but that is just crazy. Bart, WOW 1500.00? I see 6 hours labor What was the rest of it for? |

I paid a few hundred bucks for the 1000 mile service. Sounds like they are trying very hard to win your loyalty and business... assuming of course they actually did all the work. I'd definitely go back to a dealer like that. A local Discount Tire dealer fixed all my flats for free (actually they asked me to throw $5 into the Muscular Dystrophy jar on the counter) even though I didn't buy my tires from them. After several such repairs I certainly went there to buy my new tires! Obviously I checked to see their prices were decent too, but good service and being eager to serve goes a long way. |

Yea, cause I don't get why you would pay 200.00 for a fluids change and a TPS reset. Partsare about 1/5 the cost. The rest is Labor Charge. Frustrating. I paid 220.00 and that was with synthetic. Honestly, just get a Diagnostic tool from Al and do it yourself from here on out. Just go and buy about 5 Orings and you'll be good to go. |

It is always less to do the service yourself. Heck I do some of my own services for the same reason and I work here! All you need is, Service manual Techno software kit( you only have to do the TPS reset every 10,000 miles or if you swap the ECM) Fluids O rings Tools None of it is that hard to do but it does take a little time. Just follow the procedure laid out in the service manual. |

I prefer to do the work myself; that is because I'm anal. When I worked on customer bikes, I was the same way though. My work was a representation of me. Find a good service dept and you wont have a problem with the guys working on your bikes. If it seems like they could care less, I'd advise buying a manual if you are mechanically inclined. One thing I would recommend to everyone to do other than the normal service is to check your static timing every time. I know it usually won't be off, but if it is, it affects your dynamic timing and fuel delivery. Also, I reset the TPS every time just b/c it only takes about 10 minutes and you never have to worry about it getting way off. If you don't understand how to do this, you should probably leave it to a service dept though. Nothing against DIY, but sometimes people cause their own problems b/c they don't fully understand what they are doing. (Message edited by josh_cox on September 22, 2006) |

I paid AUD$70 at my dealer in Brisbane, Australia as they also said that the 1600Km/1000 Mile service didn't charge labour, only the parts/oil. Might be worth checking if your getting ripped off. |

Hey Dave do you have both part numbers for the orings.....hey and do you have a part number for the parts manual for the lightning also??????? I will need to call ya for the levers, manual and orings........ I bet they didn't perform the 1000 mile service. I paid $350 for my 1000 mile service. I dropped the bike off on lunch and picked it up on the way home. They had the bike 4 hours or so. The service manager bitched about how hard Buells are to work on the entire time. I also pointed out that the bike had never done a burn out.....So I expected the bike to be returned with all of the rubber intacted. |

forgot to mention.....My bike was returned with 20 more miles on the odometer too. I know they need to take it for a test drive but that was crazy |
