Anyone figure a way to mount one on the handlebars or keep it somewhere that is easily accessed? Or do you just throw it in your pocket? I know there are some of you who listen to music on longer rides, I just know it!

I got the rubber cover for mine (30 gig iPod Video), which allows me to use it through the material of my textile jacket. I can feel the wheel through the material, even with my gloves on, and can stop, start, skip forward or back, ect. I don't mount mine in the open to keep it safe from damage, and because its illegal to wear headphones in Washington state. I could use helmet speakers, but they all sound like crap, not at all like my Sony buds,

Velcro it to the gas cap. Works like a charm. I use the industrial strength velcro that is about $6 in the fabric section at Wal-Mart. I put the spiny side on the gas cap, the soft side on the iPod (I'm using an XM radio Inno now) so it doesn't collect lint when it's off the bike. Cut the side on the gas cap to match the shape of the flip-up part of the cap, and it's not even noticeable.

Turn up the volume, lock it, put in pocket.

I make a playlist and just listen. I'd rather not be messing w/ it while riding. I have only done it once because my ears hurt for a full week from the pressure of having the Sure EC2s pushing against the cartilage for 7 hours. I can't find a pair of earbuds that sound good and are small enough.

Just a hint, I am on my second mp3 player, one Ipod, one lyra, both failed internally. Things in common on both: both have internal hard drives, IE moving parts, and both were mounted to the bike in some rigid manner, one holder, one velcro to the bars. The thing is, they were both adbsorbing HUGE amounts of vibration, something NOT good on moving, sensitive parts like hard drives.

I am now on a 1 gig shuffle, with no problems at all since. Just something to keep in mind.

I'd use a nano with flash, not internal drive.

Thats a really good idea Matt. Hadn't thought of that. More important than selecting songs is adjusting the volume on the fly.

I'm with Jiffy. 4 gig Ipod. Put it on shuffle lock and stick in my pocket. I have earphone in my helmet and nothing in my ears. I can hear the music and still all the things around me. My Icon helmet has hole in the foam for speakers.

The Buell tank bag has a holder that snaps on/off. They have an 8Gb Nano now that should hold enough songs.

As far as buds and such go I use CEPs. They really are great. Passive noise as well as good speakers. I dont have the web address but just google CEP, helicopter helmet and you should hit it right off.

I just got a set of memorex noise canceling earbuds at Wal-Mart. <$30.
The come with 3 different sizes of rubber ear pieces. They use a AAA battery
to power the noise canceling and also boost the input signal. They work
even better and have a really "clean" sound
when used with my Boosteroo I got from aerostitch.com. It also boosts the
audio input signal, so you can leave the volume of the player low and have less
distortion.

I was very impressed with the sound I got from this rig with mt cd player in my
tank bag on my last ride.

The memorex earbuds handle a fair amount of bass, but as with any earbud that is
not in the premium range there are limits.

I got my nano velcroed to the triples. Bit ugly but it works but is not optimal. Used to have a MZR900 minidisc and it was the goods shuffling through songs as the remote was big enough for leather gloves and volume easily adjusted and the rest was in my pocket. Using Song MDR-EX71 earbuds proved to be the best option for the nano and Md player as they also come with 3 silcon ear sizes and the tighter the fit the less bike that gets in. Really good bass response for inner ears IMO. For sound Quality the long play MD player was way better than the nano, pity it didn't like being "portable".

i had my grandmother make me a small pouch that is waterproof and clips onto a slingbag that i wear while riding, works great, cant control the volume level through the pouch, but i can control play/pause, skipping between songs etc etc.

have done this for a while, and its been great, rode in rain and it was perfectly fine.

"..adjusting the volume on the fly..."

I bought a Shure PA235 attenuator on eBay that has a thumbwheel for volume control. Used it on an XM radio in a tank bag with Shure E2c ear buds.

The tank bag has an outlet hole on my end, the attenuator body is on the outside of the bag. The short cord is long to reach the headphone jack on the XM receiver.

That puts the volume control close enough to hand that I can reach down and tweak it.

Shure also sells a EA650 Attachable Volume Control that looks exactly like that, same MSRP, but I can't figure out what the difference between the two is. The PA235 works for me and was a little cheaper.

I just made a playlist with great riding music and use a pair of Koss ear buds. The have foam rubber inserts, like ear plugs. I run one in the helmet, so I can still hear and be legal. Works great.

The remote also has buttons for volume control. Along with forward and back track select and a play pause button. I have it for when hooking my ipod to my stereo.
