I was going down a low speed twisty road on my '06 XB12Ss this afternoon and all of the sudden I started having sputters and loud backfires out of the exhaust pipe (Think shotgun blast...) when trying to run at a steady 2500 rpm or so. I stopped as soon as I was able, and the bike seemed to idle fine. I made it up to the interstate and headed back home at around 75 mph with no apparent problems (after a couple of miles at speed). All seems ok right now, but I'm a bit concerned. By the way I did wash it yesterday for the first time, but the problem did not start until about 20 miles into my ride. I'm guessing that any water related problem would have shown up sooner. Any clues as to what may be happening? Possible fouled plug? Thanks, Tom |

although i am not saying this is your problem. the same thing happened to me. i pulled over but i did not notice my fan come on when i turned it off. i let it cool down and then it did it again later on. started fiddling the plug to the fan and i havent had a problem since. but when my bike overheated, it had the same symptoms you described. |

I had the same issue recently as well ... check the connectors on the right side of the bike.. the grey and black three wire connectors .... willing to bet you will find some water in there ... |

Thanks for the feedback guys. I rode in to work this morning with no problems, but I'll check the things that both of you mentioned. Tom |

I had the same problem when the positive lead from the battery came loose. |
