This is from Trojan, a good match to the stock left side scoop...
Hope this helps! I had to "work it" to get it to fit precisely, but it's fiberglass and easy to sand. Paint is SEM Bumper Cover flat black paint, and there is absolutely no closer match to the stock plastic (but I still painted the left side scoop as well), plus it has not had ANY peeling, flaking, or even any pits from road debris. Al's scoops are the same as trojan's Appearance wise.

You might want to read this thread on my observations with a right side scoop. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142838/224123.html?1157568579 The paint(?) blistered on the part of the scoop directly above the header. |

They chouldn't have made it more symmetrical? Even if it was shorter or longer to clear I would like it to be even from the front. |

Not to get off the subject but Chris and Fandango, where did you get the mirrors? |

Oh, yeah one more off the subject question. Fandango, what do you use to clean and polish your carbon? |

Al's scoops are the same as trojan's Appearance wise. They are actually quite different when viewed from the front. Ours have a different shape at the bottom to clear the exhaust headers.

Matt, Why don't you show your low profile intakes? I have found them to be entirely satisfactory from the cooling point of view, and I prefer them aesthetically. In addition, they do address some of the concerns raised here. |

I'm working on this point with Loris of Lorandi Resine... it's not an easy job but we're trustful about! Here are some steps of the project based on the actual right side scoop: http://www.147db.com/tech/front1_original.jpg http://www.147db.com/tech/front1_edited.jpg http://www.147db.com/tech/front1_merged.jpg http://www.147db.com/tech/front2_original.jpg http://www.147db.com/tech/front2_edited.jpg http://www.147db.com/tech/front2_merged.jpg http://www.147db.com/tech/up_original.jpg http://www.147db.com/tech/up_edited.jpg http://www.147db.com/tech/up_merged.jpg |

Teeps has asked me to comment a bit more completely on my experience with the low profile scoops. I was afraid that was going to happen, that's why I tossed the ball back to Matt. I did not do any before and after tests. I must admit I installed them shortly after buying the bike for mostly aesthetic reasons: I just HATE the way the stock air intake looks. In addition, I selected the low profiles because they allow the use of my own Ohlins steering damper mounts, and I didn't feel like designing some new ones:-) That being said, I do not have any problems with my bike, even riding in a spirited manner in over ninety degree temps, and I have never had any pinging problems. Fan operation seems similar to my previous XB9S. I am running the race ECM, K+N, original Drummer, Open Air box, Denso Iridium Plugs.
Sorry I couldn't be more scientific. |

Hi Chad, The pic posted is of the 'right side carbon fibre airscoop' 'XB Carbon Fibre Right Side Air Scoop' or in glass fibre: 'XB9/XB12 Right Side Fibreglass Air Scoop' Shipping to Austira isn't a problem and would be GBP10. Not the large type Ilmberger carbon part. (Message edited by trojan on September 18, 2006) |
