i like the looks, but how do you seal gearbox? i don't quite get how that part works, being able to service the gearbox separately??? |

You have to do some welding on the gearbox to close the oil passages, I believe. Matt of Trojan is using it on his race bike. Says it it lighter, smoother, better. |

Must be nice when you lay it over on the left > But seriously, that thing looks sick! |

That sure would make replacing the stator, again, a much easier job! |

Notice the bike in the pic has a custom swingarm? I wonder where they route the oil lines and tank? |

if you seal the gearbox, does that means its a dry clutch conversion? ( shuddering, as I recall the noises, and clutch woes coming from some ducati's I've ridden with) |

I wouldn't mind having one but I'd rather have more protection on it... I suppose though... I've watched choppers get dropped on their open primaries while the riders were spinning donuts and stuff and they seemed to survive just fine... Hmmm... |

The oil passages need to be welded up, and the gearbox bearings changed for sealed type. You also need to install a new gearbox oil drain in the bottom of the cases (you fill the gearbox through the speedo sensor hole). It is a lot more protected than it looks in the photos, with little liklihood of moving parts hitting either your foot or the deck should you drop it. The whole kit is only very slightly wider than the stock primary case, and if you ground it out when cornering then you have already crashed. We've had one on the race bike all year and haven't got close to grounding it.
The clutch is indeed dry, and makes the usual dry clutch noises like a Ducati. However the clutch is also much lighter and gearchanges much more positive with this setup. It saves around 6kg (13lbs !)over the stock primary setup. The best thing about the whole setup is the noise it makes, kind of a cross between a jet fighter and a supercharger The swingarm in the picture is a prototype for the one on the new Free Spirits race bike. It is aluminium and weighs almost nothing compared to the stock swingarm. The oil tank is under the seat on this particular bike, but not on the new racer This particular bike is usxed exclusively on the street and belongs to a friend of Marcello.

I'm gonna' have to agree with Hdbobwithabuell and Bake on this one. F'n ugly. Like driving your car around without the hood. Now as far as racing goes, fine. But unless you're wearing your race boots with pants tucked in, looks like it'd only be a matter of time before you'd find yourself snatched right off the seat! ~SM |

Yeah... I like it. That said... It would be nice if you were to make an aluminum plate that would mount to the cases where the primary cover would have. This would cover up all of the "uglyness" for the street users. Me... I'm getting ready to build a track bike so I'd take one just like it is. The thing I would worry about would be if one were to hit the front bracket hard enough... Would it toast the engine cases? That scares me a little, but I really doubt it would. |

Now as far as racing goes, fine. But unless you're wearing your race boots with pants tucked in, looks like it'd only be a matter of time before you'd find yourself snatched right off the seat! Unless you are in the habit of wearing 70's throwback style flared trousers it should not be a problem. I've ridden it with jeans & trainers plenty of times and still have both feet : The thing I would worry about would be if one were to hit the front bracket hard enough... Would it toast the engine cases? Absolutely not. The front bracket is attached to the engine cases by aluminium posts that would give before the cases did. When I first fitted ours I was worried that the scrutineers at the races wouldn't like the open belt drive, so I made a carbon fibre cover that went under the rear 'cage' and covered the clutch hub etc. I need not have bothered because the officials have been fine with it all year, and the cover was very ugly anyway. |

Howdy! I have a few questions about the "Reverso" muffler that is on that street bike. Is the muffler the Euro Legal version? What type of HP and Torque curves does a Euro Legal version generate as compared to a stock XB-12 Servo Muffler? Is it nearly as quiet as a stock muffler? Is it structurally stout enough to be used as a Jacking Point? Thanks! |

I like it. I'd be willing to bet that the belt has less parasitic drag than the primary chain, too. I know some will respond back saying chains are more efficient than belts, but they aren't as efficient as you think if they're running in an oil bath. |

Great idea in my opinion. It would be better for street users if it had some type of cover..maybe something similar to what Ducati uses. |

Does the kit come with a slipper clutch? I agree that the mounting points where the old primary cover should be is Futt Bugly. |
