with out any riding. Yea, apparently the rain that had already fallen was to much of a risk, so they shut er down. With 4 hours to go...they say nope. Well thats that then. So I went to check out the Ducs n Gixxrz. I dunno ya'll...the feeling I get from the hd places are all 'there better than everyone' and 'it better be orange and black..with chrome...for 500 dollars..or u cant wear it.' Go to the other places, and there all 'hey man..need any help?' Some dude at the HD store got out of his car...and put on his chapps, HD logo leather bandanna..and his blacknorange HD leather jacket and walked in and was kicking and screaming that the demo days were off..while his wife was sitting in the car. Not a great car or anything just a ford crapper.. Whats the deal with HD. Im not sure I want to invest any money in any of their products, directly or otherwise. Seriously I think that soon enough there gonna say that you cant ride a harley with out a Harley approved helmet. With chrome..and you can only get it with chrome boots. Designed specifically for your harley. and well throw in some keychains..for 40 dollars..with chroming at 5% off.. Theres another demo this weekend, and if the attitudes are the same-ish..I think Ill retire my dream of Buell or Die. Eyefours are looking really appetizing. Honda CBRs n Gizzrs are everywhere. Im not saying that buells are a bad product..hell no..I really really really want one..but if the company that is supporting them are snobish with HD ony approved Chroming.. and holier than thou attitudes. Then Ill just have to ride the lightning..wait..thats not what i meant.. |

This is a little complicated Jean Marc. See if you can follow along. Harley Davidson is the worlds most successful consumer brand, and it the only company in the United States that has been able to increase earnings every quarter for twenty consecutive years. Buell is a little motorcycle company in East Troy Wisconsin that makes wonderfully unique motorcycles. Harely owns Buell, but doesn't run it, just like Fiat owns Ferrari. One of the techniques that every Buell rider must master is to remember that one can happily own and ride a Buell without paying any attention at all to Harley Davidson. The secret is to find the genuine Buell specialists out there. That is not too difficult because most of them are sponsors of this very board. Oh, it takes a bit of practice, but it can be done, trust me.

Why don't you look into buying a used Buell like I did? There are a lot of good deals out there and you would be dealing with an owner who knows all about the bike and cares! |

And if you do get a Buell and you know how to read a service manual work on the bike yourself. It's very self satisfying and you can't blame anyone else for what goes wrong and after driving the living hell out of my 04XB12S I can tell you in my experience that this bike has been the most maintenance free bike I've ever owned. And it sure beats the hell out of my old leaky Ninja. |

To me it is more a of HD dealer and rider problem. Just don't pay any attention to them, they know not, what they are missing. I get it fairly often from customers here, the looks of disgust when they spot the Buell display, the "I wouldn't ride one of those POS bikes" comments. I just smile. Some I will take the time to try to tell them that it's a different ride but that doesn't make it wrong. I tell them I have 3 Harleys at home too but prefer the Buells for most of my riding. Most "high ups" I have met at HD Corp like Buells and the people that ride them. |

I don't know the specifics of the weather or circumstances, but the contract that we as dealers have to sign with Buell clearly stipulates that the guy running the demo truck has the final say on whether the bikes go out. The bikes belong to Buell, so really, it's their say. If he feels the weather is too rainy, or the roads are too wet or flooded, he can pull the plug. Just throwing that out there - it might not have been the dealership's decision. |

So you're sayin you like the CBRRs and the GSXRs because they're everywhere? I bought mine, because they aren't everywhere. To each his own. You need not wait for a Demo Day, just get yourself to a dealer, and ask for a demo ride. My dealership SMHD&Buell will let you ride anything on the showroom floor as long as you have a MC license, and you don't want to ride a Thunder Mountain Custom. |

I will attempt to see both sides of this one: BuellGhoulie is in Edmonton like me. Up here in Canada the sighting of a Buell may as well be the second coming. I proudly was one of the 5 guys in the city of 1 million that "got it"! There are 2 HD dealers in town and only one of them carries Buell. The owner of the other one won't even let the demo truck pull the Buells out (up here there is only one demo truck that carries both brands - 25-30 HD's and 3 Buells). The "Buell" dealer neither has a bike on the floor or anyone who can even answer questions. I have often thought of trying to work there part time as a Buell only salesperson. All of this is just a broken record for those of us who are not fortunate to live withing driving distance of what seems to be a mere handful of actual Buell dealers (all of which I believe are sponsers here). To my point: Buellghoulie- you have created a nickname for yourself the suggests to me you are at least partially sold on the Buell concept. All I can say is that no one in Edmonton other than myself and maybe 2 other guys could push you over the edge. To ride one is to believe and if mine wasn't cruelly taken from me by some asshats out there I would gladly let you try mine. Go to the demo's at Heritage on Saturday. Do not listen to anyone. Get there early and stand in line. IT WILL BE WORTH IT. I was not planning on attending because to be honest the pain from my loss is still sore. BUT if you want to talk Buell and have legitimate questions, I can be convinced to attend. Private message me if you would like. RANT OFF |

Well, im just ranting a bit also. I guess the main feeling I had was I was the only bueller there and the rest of the people I think about 12 more were all decked out in Harley leather. Intimidated maybe. Perhaps its the HD theme?? |

After reading all the responds to my post, I feel really small. thank you all for your answeres, and comments. Glitch, I have asked for a demo ride, and have been told nope, we have demo days on ......this day and that time. EDM--getting anything stolen for whatever reason is not a rational thing to have done, and I truly feel your loss. ( Insurance??) I remember in grade school, I had a pair of Doc martens,( 10 hole leather..shiney!! and they got stolen, so I saved and saved and saved to get another pair, well those got stolen also..from my locker..so my parents $ me another pair..and those got stolen. So we went to the school after hours, and my shoes got stolen AGAIN...so yea if that was u.. Ill try again on saturday..Garnett seems like a good guy. I learn't my lesson to stay away from the chromers, and stick to the riders. Viva La Revolution!!! on another note..I looked ad john's bike again, and decided thats the one I want. (cityx) Wife says next season, so Ill throw the deposit this season, then we all win! |

I was getting a little depressed not seeing any buells around town....It didn't dawn on me till I went to a bike night a couple of weeks ago. There was a couple of hundred bikes there....all of them the same hondas, gizzers and a few ducs and triumphs. I was the only buell again........ My bike was getting more attention than any of the jap bikes or english bikes. Yes the harley guys seem very interested too. So my advice is buy what makes you happy and to heck with the rest. |

Dude, buy a used Buell, they go for pretty cheap. You won't regret it. I've only had mine since May and so far so good. I've done a fair amount of work to it, including rotating the engine to put my exhaust on. So far it seems easy to work on, especially with the help of many people on this board. I only regret that I paid too much for mine. I should have gotten a used one. As for dealers, I'm not happy with mine but I've got two great HD dealers close by and they are great except they don't do Buells. Why ride something you see every day? You will get noticed on a Buell(not that thats what your looking for). I had mine at a local Harley dealer's pig roast last week. It was the only one there and there was at least one person looking at my bike the entire day. Women, children and leather clad HD old timers too. I got a lot of questions and compliments. That felt kind of good. Anyway, do what you have to do to get 1. Gregg |

Gentleman_jon has it right. I am an investor by day, and became familiar w/Buell because of H-D. Our clients have made boatloads of money over the years by being an owner of one of the greatest consumer brands on the planet. A VERY senior member of HDI (now HOG) leadership explained to me one of the reasons they increased production so much over the years is to try and deflate certain dealer's ego. You think they like hearing about dealer egos's from potential customers? I truly believe my Lightning is 100% better than anything with a H-D badge, except for the Street Rod. And at $10K less, it is a no-brainer. HOG, like any company, works for ALL its constituents - customers, vendors, lenders, employees and owners. I would suggest another dealer. The ones that sponsor BWB are a great place to start. Don't trash Buell because of H-D; trash the dealer by going to a competing dealer. You can be one of the chosen 3% - they are the unwashed masses that make up the other 97% who put a rubber puck under their kickstand so it doesn't get scratched. |

It happened to me once I went to Deeleys house of Buell in Vancouver but I live on the Island so it means 1.5 hours ferry plus 1 hour total from my place to the ferry and the ferry to the dealer. I arrived there and they said rain= no demo but the girl at the dealer new I was from the Island and she told me to take one of there bikes instead. |

Buelleghoulie buy the gixxir thats what i am doing...goin to keep the city x for now...but as much as i love my baby...just getting tired of the same old song and dance with HD dealers everywhere. Just too darn bad that we all cant have Dave@appleton HD in our back yards....yes there are a few good dealers but hardley worth the trouble anymore. I have the extended warranty on mine but i refuse to let some guy who thinks he's a buell tech touch my bike. So i do all the crap myself |

Everyone is entitled to their opinions...If I didn't buiy a product because of poor service or what ever, I'd be living in a house that I built from logs with a stone ax I made! Heck I've got a friend that refuses to even aknowledge my Buell as a Harley product and he even says the engines arn't made by HD. I LOVE the R6's RC51's and the like but I also like the Fat boys and Road Kings. My Buell is in MY OPINION the best of both worlds. Someday I will have it all but until then, I'll buy what I want because it's what I WANT and can afford, I'll work on it because I'm a mechanic and thats just what I DO. Dodge s*rewd me BIG TIME on my last diesel truck but I LOVE 'em so I bought another one. In short, Live Life YOUR way. Dont let bad expiriences slow you down. |
