Although I don't know what he did to win whatever contest, I wish I were so fortunate. I'll need to try and get a backissue to see what prompted the award. Check the link:

It's ME! Matt Mulder. The one who won the bike. I was super siked about this, and still am. At first I was dead set on keeping it, but after sitting on one at the dealership, I can barely touch the ground. In the picture of me sitting on it, I look like I'm fine, but it's resting on the kickstand, and leaning to that side. If I tried to ride it, yes I might do fine and survive. But if I didnt, theres no going back. Reasons for selling it are many. The first is: I have to pay gambling income tax on it come april. Tax knowledgable people tell me thats going to be about $2-3k. Second, insurance would be high. Third, I would need to buy riding gear, and thats not cheap. Fourth, Pay for riding safety course. All of that might be do-able, except that I'm a full time civil engineering student at the U of I, and only working about 20 hours a week at the gas station doesnt make enough money to pay bills, rent, etc AND to save enough to pay the taxes come april. And lastly, I'm engaged and getting married within a year, and I need to be saving money for that. Weddings are never cheap, even when u do a cheap wedding. So all things considered, and after thinking about it for several months, I decided it would be best to try to sell it. With the money, I can pay the taxes, have money for wedding, put a newer and better engine into my car (my true hobby. An '86 Toyota MR2 which will get a 20v 4AGE engine), and still have enough after all of that to buy a smaller bike and riding gear to learn on. And then once I graduate (in may) and start making $40k+ a year, then I can buy a nice bike if I desire. So those are my reasons for selling my bike.

And yes, those pictures were taken in the driveway of my parents place, where I'm storing the bike. I didnt ride it anywhere for a photo op. Rolled it off the truck with a plank with two of my friends, rolled it down the driveway, started it up, listened to it, revved the engine for awhile just to bask in the sound, and then eventually turned it off and pushed it into the shop, and covered it with a blanket to keep the dust off. So it's just waiting for someone.

I hope that someone "bites that $8500 starting bid." I've had people offer to give me $8k cash before I had even gotten the bike into my possession. So If nobody bids, I know I can get at least that. But $8500 is $4000 off what it costs at the dealership, so it's a great deal. I'm sure someone will be interested.

This is no different than someone selling the bike because they have prioritized... in fact, that's exactly what this man is doing.

He's selling the bike to better his life, and start a family. There should be no guilt or blame placed on him for that, in fact he should be honored; I know multiple people who let their "toys" ruin their lives.

Good on you for having the maturity to realize what is in the best interest of you, and your families future.

Well said Kyle, finally someone who doesn't want to bite someone's head off. Matt is just going to make someone the happy owner of a brand new 12R at most likely MUCH lower than you can find one at the dealer.

Not to mention all the reasons Kyle said.

I think I seen the bike the other week in the HD dealer here in Spokane. I was wondering why they only had the one in the back when they can't seem to get any other 07's in LOL now I know.

Any other Spokane buellers around here that ain't selling their bike off?

Matt,

Even though you have to sell the bike and may not be able to get one right away...I have to say you are thinking the right way when it comes to your approach to getting started on two wheels...it "adds up".

You should be commended for that much at least.

So the man needs to justify selling his MC?

That is too funny for words.

Matt,
First, congrats on winning the bike!

Second, congrats on making the right decision by selling it to someone who can use it. Why should you risk your life on a machine that is way too much for you to learn on? Too many guys would just go down to the DMV, take a quick test and jump on that thing with a t-shirt and sneakers and take off. You need to be commended for having your priorities straight.

Third, I better not let my wife read about this...see I won a bike too. An 07 Cherry/Black firebolt just like yours. Check the profile. The difference is, I am an experienced rider, LOVE BUELLS, got my education out of the way, and have a solid career. I could never be mature or selfless enough to give up my prize, even when I already own a beautiful Buell. So I just kept them both, and for now the wife understands I just gotta have my cake and eat it too. Although i'm sure this is going to cost me some nice jewelry down the road.

In any case...I think this is an excellent decision for you and if you can use a Buell to get you off on the right foot financially then you are much better off, and good luck selling it. Don't settle for less then 10K for it.

-Black}

Hey Matt,

Debts, wedding, and Toyota engine aside, it is pretty good that you realize that is not the bike to start on. I just hope that once you cut your teeth on two wheels, you'll remember "the brand" when it is time to move to a bigger ride.

Matt,

I think it's a sign that you are meant to have a bike.

After you sell the Buell, go find a good used Kawasaki 250 Ninja or KLR 250 to learn on. (don't forget good riding gear also!)

Both are inexpensive and great bikes for beginners. Someday when you are ready to move up you will know what bike you are ready for.

You won't regret it. Motorcycles are great fun. There are a lot of great riding opportunities both on and off road where you live. Take advantage of it!

Debueller,

I was contemplating saying the same comment about the Ninja 250, which happens to be what I am riding right now. If I were in a better financial situation and that was a 50-state bike, rest assured I would propose a partial trade situation.

Geez, slamming someone for selling their own property? First off, that is uncool. Secondly, that kind of miserableness is not welcome on BadWeB. One more for the profanity list. :/

Just a few comments re the sale... Liability insurance is not expensive. Since the bike is paid for, you don't need collision coverage. : )

And... judging by the following, you look plenty large for the bike. The suspension settings *may* require adjustment to suit you though.

And... Used good condition riding gear for sale here or on ebay can be had for cheap.

Good luck with the sale though. And good luck finishing up school. Engineering is no cake-walk. : )

Well, I appreciate all of you who stood up for me in making the right decision. I really would like to get another small bike as well with the money and learn to ride. Right now the auction is at $9350 with over 3 hours left. I'm hoping it will reach 10k. And yes, once I start making money and have some miles under my belt, I would love to come back and get a buell.

As for the copy of tourist trophy that I won, since I dont own a PS2, I sold that right away to a guy down in CA, who is also interested in buying the bike.

As far as looking plenty large enough for the bike in that picture, notice that the kickstand is down, so the bike is leaning towards the camera, and so my foot reaches the ground easier. Without the kickstand, my heel just barely scrapes the ground. If I try and push the bike backwards while I'm on it, I cannot get any angle against the ground to push against, because my legs only reach going straight down. lol. I tried to push it backwards while I was sitting on it, and I couldnt do it. Of course, the gravel doesnt help.

Blackxb9, how did you win your bike? Congrats to you too.

Don't forget you have to pay state and federal income taxes on the value of the bike.

Sorry, but that is the way it is!

Taxes, yes I know. I Plan on putting aside $2000 for taxes from the sale price.

2k-taxes
2k-wedding
4k-building performance engine for car (getting started, need about $10k to do it all)
$300- recurve wood bow for fiance's christmas present
$left after that-another cheaper motorcycle to learn on.
