At 1,300 miles I'm ready to begin using synthetic oil (Mobil1 15-50 in the engine), H-D Formula+ in the primary. But is there a separate transmission oil? And if so, what should I use there? Or is the crankcase & the transmission one unit? |

They are separate units. I use the same synthetic oil in both. I have it changed at the dealer, they use the Harley Syn. I top off with Mobil 1 15-50 as needed in both engine and transmission. |

So, let me get this straight. There are three separate units: 1) engine, 2) transmission, and 3) primary case? Is that right? |

No. Primary and the transmission share the same oil. Engine oil is completely separate. |

1. H-D Syn 3 in the engine (runs cooler) 2. H-D Syn 3 in the primary/trans (shifts much smoother) You won't be disappointed. |

So just curious how many change their primary/tran fluid every oil change, or just every other? Assuming your doing oil changes ever 2500 miles. |
