I know you all seem to like to cut the cheese grater on the xb Lightnings, but I rather like the look of it. I'm trying to find a good used xb for sale, but a lot seem to have the cheese grater removed. Anyone know if a new one could be reinstalled on this bike? If it has to be cut, I would assume it is an integral part of some piece on the bike. So would I have to replace the entire seat frame area? Anyway, sorry if this has been covered already. I did a search and couldn't find any mention of anyone reinstalling it. Thanks for any advice! |

Once it's off, it's off. But I am sure someone one this board would gladly trade an uncut rear center section for your cut one! |

The grater is part of the tail light assembly. You would not have to replace the entire subframe. If you look here: http://www.buell.com/en_us/gear/accessories/Product.asp?Menu_ID=2&ProductLineID= 2&CategoryID=5&ProductID=4060 you can see how much of the tail is connected to the grater. |

Wow, that is perfect. Thanks Cereal. I'll ask DaveS for a price on the stock tail light assembly. Thanks! |

If you end up with a cut tail section be sure to offer up your cut one before you pay for a new one. I'm sure someone on here would jump at the chance to pay for all the shipping to take the cut piece off of you. |

I just bought a stock tail assembly off a badweb member. If you end up with a chopped one, and want to trade for an unchopped, contact me to see if I've completed my chop. |

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I will definitely make my chopped tail available if that's what I end up with. I already have a couple emails from guys with unchopped tails ready to go. This site is great! Now I just need a bike!!! |

I just bought one, DON'T FORGET TO ORDER THE STRAINER PART ITSELF, I didn't, and it will cost me another $80 to get that piece. |

Oh yeah, if you buy one new, UNLESS YOU SPECIFICALLY ASK, all you will get is the frame itself. You will have to order the lamp assembly (unless you already have one) Pasta Strainer itself. and the little black piece at the back that illuminates the license plate. The only reason I know this is because, I BROKE my eliminator kit, gave mine away already, then had to buy a new one. The whole set-up cost me $450 bucks, minus the Black piece, strainer, and the screws for the taillight lens. And that price is without the 10% discount. * EDITED PART * I paid $450, because I bought the subframe that was jacked up by me doing a 12 O'Clock wheelie at the track (Message edited by cochise on August 07, 2006) |
