No special tools needed. You'll need:

1/2" combo wrench
9/16" combo wrench
10mm socket & ratchet
Tufoil Lubit8 teflon based oil (any HD/Buell dealer should have this)

First, de-adjust your clutch cable to take all the slack out using the 1/2" & 9/16" wrenches

Next, remove the lever pivot in with the 10mm socket & remove the clutch lever.

Next, remove the cable from the lever, holding it upright, and using the Lubit8, apply a few drops down the housing. This stuff works great, so no need to over do it. Also, oil the friction points where the cable meets the lever, the lever & pin, and perch.

Re-assemble & adjust cable to spec.

Hope this helps.

Chris

i'm not sure if this is good but when i thought my clutch cable was getting tight I took it off the clutch arm lever and laid it on the floor.

mother nature took over from there. the oil in the primary naturally went down the cable. when i saw some start to come out i simply re installed it to the arm and cleaned it up.

it is all i had at the time, thought it may work and it did improve the feeling. take it for what it is worth.

A bit unorthodox, but pretty clever! You just want to make sure that a lot of your fluid doesn't escape from your primary. I mention the Lubit8 because it's Teflon based, and works well with the sleeve in the cable. But any lube is better that none at all.

I just lubed my cable the other day, along with changing my primary fluid and motor oil and let me tell you she's running quieter and smoother. The best part is I saved myself $79.00 an hr from Harley for something I did myself that was gratifying and easy.

If you have the time & mechanical fortitude, doing your own servicing is extremely gratifying. I'm thinking up a way to offer "service kits" so that you have everything you need to service your bike. Not sure if oil will be included, as that is a personal preference that we probably couldn't keep our stock up with each request.

oh yea...A bit unorthodox for sure. but it was a spure of the moment thing. seemed logical at the time i was messing with the cable thinking "what can i use to lube this cable with?"

an after though was ...what if it had some rust or junk in it. when i reinstalled the cable it would "flush" it back into my primary fluid.

i changed the fluid the next day..

i would go the teflon rout. good stuff. used on all my other bikes i've had. no camplaints.

I thought the primary fluid lube job was very brilliant (or just a good mistake, if I had done it).
It isn't like the lube put in from the top won't flush rust or junk into the primary anyways, once in they both go down.
