My mother-in-law tipped my Lightning over last week while it was idling in my driveway and broke the shift lever. I am not in need of the whole apparatus, just the actual lever itself. I saw the shift apparatus go for $134 on eBay and was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on how to go about replacing it inexpensively. I also broke a foot pet and the clutch lever which seem pretty reasonable from the dealer. Any thoughts on all three? |

I'm pretty sure the lever is available by itself. Contact Daves or one of the other BadWeb sponsors; they can probably fix you right up. The equivalent part for my tuber was less than $40. |

Most Buell items on Ebay go for double the new price for some stupid reason. If you go to the dealer you will be amazed how cheap XB parts are. |

I saw set XB linkage go for $176 one week and the next week about $75 go figure, sound like some one was running price up for a buddy. |

I think the entire linkage is about 25 dollars. I broke the top eye-hook part and it was 9 dollars. I posted earlier, if you just need the linkage, a turnbuckle from Lowes will work great and costs 1.

If I were you I would take this opportunity to upgrade the shift lever. American Sport Bike has a nice set of Billet Brake and Shifter levers. It'll cost you a bit more than the standard Buell lever but I think it would be worth it. |

I dropped mine awhile back (kickstand didn't fully extend- DOH!) and broke the shift lever and the foot peg. They're both freakin' cheap to replace with original parts. I think the peg was $20, and the shifter $15, or maybe vice-versa. Fixed 'em both for under $40. No biggie at all. I was quite surprised. However, both parts are pretty flimsy as well (you've already witnessed that). The ones from American Sportbike (actually made by Crossroads Performance) look like they'd be a little sturdier, and they match the heel plates. BUT it also costs almost $150 for the shifter and foot brake (sold as a pair). Can't bring myself to upgrade just yet, given the low price of the stock pieces. ~SM |

I guess there are some advantages to not having a shift lever Oh yeah and milling the "dog ears" off the rear sets and installing solid mount pegs that protect my shifter and fairing in a tip-over! |

Daves to the rescue - and while he's on vacation no less. I can't thank him enough. It kills me to have my Lightning sitting in the garage and not being able to ride it. |
