I dont know if this should be on KV or not, but here we go. I live in Rio de Janeiro, brazil, Iv got my 06 XB9SX witch I love, but I'm addicted to accessories and already got a K&N filter, open airbox kit from Americansportbike and the buell race ECM, the micron is on it's way. Iv got the k&N and the open airbox kit installed already, but I am worried about the ECM as you guys from USA run 100% Gas, and here we use a mix of Gas and alchool, so i really dont know if when installing the Race ECM I'll get a lean condition. What should I do? I even thought about getting the direct link and tune it myself, but there are NO dynos available around here and i have no knowhow on engine tuning. Help!! Thanks | ||

The race ECM will not run as lean as the standard ECM If the bike runs well on the standard then the race should protect the engine better-help it to run rich enough. | ||

When I asked Eric about E85 which I assume is similar to what you use, he said they would not comment on possible future developments, stated that Buells were sold in Brazil and muttered such things as longer injection duration, timimg, etc. I would be suspect about the race ECU. I don't know if Direct link has an alcohol map. I'd call Buell, ask local people or NHRA people who are using 'fuel'. I'd be very interested in how your quest goes. | ||

I guess I'm on my own, things around here are not as easy as in the US, dealerships know even less about buell then the us ones...this week i'll install the race ecm and do the tps reset, i'll check out how it goes, then, if it goes bad i'll simply reinstall the stock ecm, no other tps reset required, right? | ||

Cacciola, I assumed, maybe incorrectly, that Buell installed the same ECM in your bike as everywhere. If it is a different ECM for Brazil, it should have a different part number. If you let us know the number on the ECM someone here would be able to tell you. If it has the same number as the rest, then you should have no problem with the race ECM. If it is a special ECM then I would be suspect of installing the race ECM | ||

Or get his ecm redone with the use of Direct link(ask Al at American Sportbike) or check out the Tuneboy website and get hold of Wayne MacDonald,he is working on Buell stuff along with the Triumph stuff.. | ||

Does anyone remember the name of the engineer at homecoming? He seemed helpful. Maybe Cacciola could drop him a line?? Called the stealarship today, they told me it's going to invalidate my warranty because they say, (i doubt that) they have remapped the stock ecm for the brazilian fuel( is there any other tools beside direct link to do that? Harley dealers can do that?) But anyway they told me to take the bike there, they will install it, then I'll run for 2 days, then they will hook it up to the computer and analyse how things are going as I am the first one to install a race ECM here in Rio de Janeiro. | ||

the dealer is confused. they have NO capability to remap your stock ecm. what is the proportion of ethanol in your fuel blend? | ||

That's what I suspected fullpower, they were saying when i bought the bike something about the bike being wierd at the beginning, but they were working at a new map for the brazilian fuel and it would be applied to the ecm on the 1000 mile service but I was really thinking in how would they apply it to the stock ECM I just called a friend that works with that and he told me that we have something around 23% alcohol in our gas mix. | ||

Harley dealers around here remap Power commanders and are just starting with Direct link. I wouldn't think Brazilian dealers would be different as they are on the cutting edge of quasi alternative fuels. I would think remapping everything would be a way of life there. I'd suggest giving your Harley dealer the name and number of the person you talked to at Buell and see what they come up with. Shame Brazil is Portuguese and not Spanish as Abe, the engineer at Buell, immigrated from a Spanish speaking country, as I recall. rumors I've heard around here was that Brazil used 100% alcohol. A pity that US reporting doesn't have to be factual. | ||

Not really, around here we rely on GAS (with 23% alcohol), PURE alcohol, Biodiesel and Naturalgas. Big manufacturers like VW, FIAT, FORD, GM released flexfuel cars, which can run with gas, alcohol or any mix between the 2... | ||

23% alcohol will make it run "a little lean" The race ECM is probably just fine, will compensate in effect. I would NOT install the Micron exhaust unless you have a means to remap, either a techlusion or direct link. ANY Free flow exhaust will almost always require increased fuel, due to improved scavenging. Anything else anyone else tells you is BS. Prove me wrong, run it on a dyno. |
