When the dealership receives a new XB, are they fully assembled, just add fluids and go? |

The bikes are fully assembled including all fluids. The only thing the dealer has to do is install the main fuse. |

In most cases now, all H-D/Buell motorcycles are shipped fully assembled. Really the only thing that isn't installed are the windshields on a few models(ie: Touring bikes, Heritage Softail), even the handlebars are pretty much so already in proper location. |

Jon, your XB runs on diesel. How is that working out for you? |

They are assembled minus the maxi fuse. We still have to uncrate, set tire pressures, adjust/lubricate the cables, set primary chain, check for damages, aim lights, check static timing (yes, it is off sometimes. buell is working on this quality issue), set tps, birth certificate, diag test ride, check fluid levels when it is back/warm, fill with gas, and detail the bike for the show floor. Any time there is a test ride you have to adjust the suspension for the rider and set it for the owner when they buy. Also when the bike is bought they should go over all of the break in with you and how to adjust your own suspension, check fluids, maint schedule, warranty info, Brag info etc. This is all stuff the Service dept does with the bike/owner. So, the dealer has a lot more to do than the maxi fuse. I guess this is why some people have good experiences and some think the dealers stink though. It all depends on if the dealer does everything they should. (Message edited by josh_cox on July 30, 2006) |

Sounds like a good Service Shop, where is it, if I need some attention on the road sometime? |

I wish all the dealers followed all those steps. I bought my bike on a Wednesday & told the sales guy that I'd come get her on Saturday late in the day because it was the only time I could catch a ride in with someone. When I arrived Saturday & asked where my bike was (it was no where to be seen) they got this "oh crud" look on their faces. They had to run into the back & pull her out. They very quickly gave her a sponge bath with a damp cloth. They basically told me I'm on my own concerning suspension settings (thank God I found this board two years prior so I knew more about my bike than the sales guys). The bike blew an ign fuse upon start up so they grabbed one off another bike & wished me the best of luck. A week later I brought the bike to them for warranty work on said ign fuse problem & since then, I have never gone back. I've found a much better shop & it's half the distance from my house & the shop guys like Buells I'm sure over the next few years as the dealers who don't like Buell drop out & the ones that do like Buell step forward things will become greatly improved. Who knows, maybe stealership horror stories will begin to fade just like Buell reliability horror stories are now starting to fade. It can happen. |
