Does any one know if a Lighting long rear frame section will fit on a regular Lighting? So you could use a Lighting Long seat of a little more passenger room. | ||

There is a lot of work involved modifying mounts to make it fit. The bigger problem is the amount of weight that would be out past the rear axle upsetting the chassis balance. It could be dangerous to ride the bike 2-up with the long tail on the standard chassis. | ||

Frames, seat, and undertray are wider where it mounts to the frame. Will have to be spaced out. Also, the space between the upper and lower mounting points is different. Other thing I'm not sure of is the seat. I know my long seat had a tab in front that went into a slot in the frame itself....I'm not sure if the S frames have that slot as their seats have a tab that just goes into the undertray. I went the other way...put the S on my Ss. If you got it on there, there would be a ton more room for both of you. I miss the big gel seat sometimes. TK ps. I'm keeping my stock parts ; ) | ||

Tommy_k, When you put the S tail on the SS did it lower the seat height? What complications did you run into? I am picking up a XB12Ss from DaveS on the 12th so this might be an interesting mod if I can find a complete tail section and seat. With a 30-31 inch inseam the lower I can get to the ground the better. Thanks for the info. | ||

At the factory they said there were clearance issues between the undertail and shock putting a Uly tail on an SS. I'm not convinced this is an insurmountable problem, but no one seems to want to be the first to do it. | ||

Cad, I do have a lowcut seat installed, and yes, it's lower than the Ss seat. Almost too low for me as I'm 33-34" inseam. I may try the streetfighter seat, and rotate my pegs down a notch(Free Spirits rear sets). I do miss the room and comfyness of the stocker on long trips, but for sport riding, if feels a little better. Also, the material is smoother so I transition easier. See my profile for a pic. I just sent an email to another member considering the same. I'll try to find it and forward it to you. As an alternative, Buell just released a couple new seats for the Ss. I believe the touring seat may be lower. Check them out too. Look nice! TK | ||

With a 30-31 inch inseam the lower I can get to the ground the better. Cadhopper, I can't imagine you'll have any trouble with the stock seat height on an XB12Ss. My inseam is barely 30 inches, and I've sat on a couple and feel completely comfortable. If you really DO feel like you have to lower the seat height, swapping the entire tail end is an expensive & difficult way to go about it. | ||

I e-mailed DaveS today and asked him to order the Touring seat for me. Buell's website says it is 1" lower. Hopefully it will be there when I go to pick up the bike at Appleton's. | ||

With a firebolt fairing/triple trees with heli-bars. Here's a thought for you: an XBRR upper fairing would provide more wind protection and would look even cooler. Unfortunately, Anony says they are having problems with their supplier so they'll be hard to get for a while. Maybe Trojan or American Sport Bike will come out with a fiberglass replica. The peg issue would be solved with Uly rearsets. Which would be a good idea anyway. Steve and I were discussing the parts bin X3T at homecoming. Did you ever find out about the uly rear sets fit to an r frame Steve? remember linkages and pedals are a non-issue (Message edited by diablobrian on August 01, 2006) | ||

I normally ride about 15K miles a year so a comfy seat is a must. I,ve had my F650GS since May 18th and I already have over 6K miles on it plus a few miles on the SV for more spirited rides. The biggest reason I would like the Uly tail is so I can mount the Hepco-Becker hard bags. I do a lot of 2 and 3 day trips and atleast one week long trip a year and hard bags are a very nice option to have. I wish they would offer these for the Ss. I think once I pick up the bike from DaveS my first mission will be to see if I can come up with a good solution for mounting my Givi E-21 and E480 bags. | ||

For those of you looking for a fairing for the hypothetical parts bin XB12T, I found an old post (last August) from Al_Lighton that might be worth following up on: "I'll certainly be looking at producing a frame mounted fairing for the Ulysses." Al normally has a lot of irons in the fire. It would become more of a priority if people were clamoring for them I'm sure. |
