Where does he put the engine oil? Dual discs? That is neat but it is no longer a Buell! |

Pretty cool! Seems like a well executed solution to a non-existent problem, though. I've always felt that if you have an open primary on an XL based motor, you are left with a really unsightly and open gasket surface where the cover was. Some kind of a machined ring or cowling that would mount where the cover was, giving it a finished-off appearance, would fix that right up. In this application it could incorporate the mounting brackets for the clutch actuator, shifter & idler. I'm sure that would only triple the already high price! Wouldn't there be a bit of additional machine work involved to get the tranny separated from the primary so that it wouldn't leak at the door? New door w/o holes? Also how do ya fill and drain the tranny now that it's closed off from the original fill and drain that was for both the primary & trans? This could cost more than my first 4 Harleys, combined. My head's starting to hurt - I'll just shut up now. AL |

What will the whiny anti-belters say about this? It's a belt, it's going to be unreliable. I know I've never actually seen a belt break, but the 4 guys on badweb that have had one break multiple times are making me nervous. I don't like dry open primaries. Here's your sign. |

kdan i wouldnt want an open cover either. See them on the choppers all the time, look cool but make me nervous. I take it its a whole new clutch too right??? hmmmm sounds expensive. Nice workmanship though. (Message edited by aussie_buell on July 30, 2006) (Message edited by aussie_buell on July 30, 2006) |

Kdan, most "anti-belters" are anti-03-belters. Not belts in general, unless gearing changes are needed. I have questions, many of which have already been voiced in this thread, but no problems with it just because it's a belt drive. |

i would like one, looks like the one on that uly that was posted on here, i think tojans or someone? i bet it costs a fortune, which would rule it out for me, but if the price was right, i would be all over it. makes it that much more unique. |

Yea, I just noticed that too. They also completely changed the front fork assembly, doing away with the original brakes. I wonder why they kept the mass-centralized exhaust and the fuel tank frame. They made the bike the same as all the rest with everything else.

"The belt primary was not made to sell but as a showcase for Marcello's talents at Free Spirits. It would be very expensive, but if demand is there......." quoted earlier this year. yup, it was the one trojan used, i wonder what "very expensive"is? apparently they think the demand is there now. |

where is the oil on that bike? There is none. If you could see the rest of the bike you'd see the open dry crank case as well. |

I'm not big on the open drive, but 5kg is a lot of rotating mass. If the figure is in fact for the assembly and not the cover, fluid, etc. it should make a noticeable difference. Might be worth it for a race bike. |

i like it. i would put one on in a minute.(if i could afford it) i love the look of the open belt and have asked about if this could be done on the xb before, but at the time there were no one that offered a kit for it. i think it looks pretty sweet. but then again, my taste is not the same as most. |
