I have someone interested in my race can, but they need it for a 12 and mine was on my 9. Will it work on the 12? I thought it would, but not sure. Greg |

I asked the same question before, and yes it is. The collector part of the header is the same size on the 9 and the 12. |

Sounds like you got the answer you needed so I'm going to steal your thread...hope you don't mind I was looking through the KV (go me!) because i was thinking about cutting up the stock can and modding it. One thing I couldn't find though was what the difference between the buell race muffler and the buell stock muffler. Anyone know?? |

Download the Buell XB exhaust shootout file at American Sportbike. It has very thorough information on both. KYbueller, where in KY do you live, I'm in Lexington. I have a yellow 03 XB9SL |

04 and later Buell race cans are all dimensionally identical, just polished or matte finish. 03 race cans are slightly different, the exhaust tips are a little higher and will foul the 04 and later belt drive idler pulley. There were no XB12s in 03, and all of them were matte finish. But not all matte finish race cans are 03 versions. |

I think the gutted can pics were shut down because they were trying to show a side by side of one, or more of our sponsors mods to the cans. Not cool. There is a lot of blood sweat and tears involved with the work to make the pipes better. If someone had pics of an opened race can and stock can that might go over better, but it might not. |

There is a lot of blood sweat and tears involved with the work to make the pipes better. I'm sure a lot of "blood, sweat and tears" went into the design of the stock muffler as well, and I don't think stealing Intellectual property is cool under any circumstances. That being said, The sponsor developed their design after examining the stock muffler, so I don't see how examining their muffler to produce a competitor is any different. |

Are internal pictures of engines intellectual property as well, tyres, sparkplugs, washing machines... |

Yes, they are. Most things can be considered intellectual property in that they were once somebodies original idea. The question is who owns the idea, and whether they are protected by patent or some other means. Buell mufflers are patented, although I think that applies more to the position of the muffler itself, rather than anything special with the internals. If the sponsor hasn't patented his idea, then in a free market it is fair game for copying. Sucks, but that's life. (Message edited by garp on July 30, 2006) |

The pictures are not, the subject is. I get into this with the NYPD and the FBI in New York City trying to tell me where I can and can not take pictures. Generally ANY picture taken from a public place is fine. Owners of private property may (like inside the Buell facility) restrict photos. If you need the services of a good IP attorney, with regard to photos, I just happen to have one. CLASSIC LINE BY NYPD: "Hey....you can't take pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge" To which I replied..."when then ya better callout the National Guard to bomb that crowd there" |
