I recent left side fall left me without a shifter linkage in the hills on Tennessee on a trip to the Dragon. I was able to go to Lowes and get a turnbuckle in the hardware section. It looks like this
and is essentially the same thing as the linkage. The stock bolts held it firmly and it was all I needed. It only cost $1. I got the new linkage now, but I keep this thing under my seat in my tool bag. I just thought I would share my experience and a tip. If you at lowes, drop a buck and pick one up, keep it under the seat |

Somewhat related--I was having problems shifting recently (bike would shift up, but not down--couldn't get it from neutral to first) and was quite worried about my transmission until I noticed the locknuts on my shift linkage had come loose, and the link adjuster had shortened until the shifter contacted the side case when I tried to shift down. Re-adjusted, tightened locknuts, and I was on my way. My fault, I had just adjusted the linkage to suit my new Lightning pegs, and guess I didn't tighten the locknuts enough... |

I need to keep checking my jam nut. The dealer ordered the wrong one, I need the left hand thread jam-nut. Its like 10 cents so they wont order it, and I couldn't find a 10/32 LHT nut at any fastner stock, so I loctited the one I have, I guess I should just check it periodically. |
