Seriously guys, buying an Honda XR50 and learning balance and break control is the best. Not to mention a total blast. I do circles, ape hangers and anything on my 50. besides the fun, it teaches brake control and reaction. I'm riding about a mile long standups on my XB12R, but still working on pulling it up in 3rd gear. You can pick up a used XR50 for almost as much as the class, sell it in a year for the same amount. Just my 2 cents. | ||

Buy a fiddy, way more fun than paying for a one day school. Makes a great pit bike too! But mine is a 80!  XB12rdude, You can get third up sitting or standing, takes some practice. I have only gotten about a mile and a half or so standing in third. I never let out tire pressure so I get the wobbles at about 85mph and bail out of the wheelie. | ||

Hmmm. lets see, Go thrash someone elses motorcycle all day, no fear of getting a ticket AND get expert level instruction..................... Most peoples insurance deductable is $500.00 . I have seen a few threads on this board from people that have looped bikes and broken parts learning to do wheelies. $500.00 seems like a pretty good deal. | ||

Hey "new12r" how are you getting your Buell up in 3rd. Bouncing, clutching or both? Any RPM's in particular or mods I should know of. Thanks, I'm out to try it this weekend. Yep......the XR50's rule, what a great way to learn wheelies without killing yourself. Remember the learning curve for wheelies is pretty steep, you mess up and die. | ||

I did the ononewheel school. I did crappy wheelies for 15 years and wanted to get over the fear of looping the bike so I could do better ones. By the end of the day I was pulling good long wheelies, and so was one other guy. There were about 8 guys that never really got it. Just be in the mindset to get aggressive. You can't loop the bike with their setup, so just hammer it and get the feeling down. It is expensive, but I wheelie all the time now, and it was well worth it to me. | ||

I am running about 40-45mph, clutch it up for sure, the only real way to to do it. A little bounce and lean back and away you go! I am just running a 03 9 race can and K&N filter. The 9 can is shorter than the 12 can and I had to modify it to fit but has great low end due to the shorter size. BTW, Nice pic! (Message edited by new12r on July 26, 2006) | ||

Downhill is alot easier place to learn to modulate throttle for a longer wheelie. I'm really obsessed with wheelies down freeway on ramps ( 2nd gear with a little clutch and a tug on the bars). I'm talking pretty light traffic areas in Mn. I really need to stop doing this as the troupers like to sit under the overpass. Nevermind. | ||

I think downhill wheelies are a lot harder than uphill, that's how some of us learned to do longer wheelies is uphill because your balance point isn't quite as far back as it is on flat surface or downhill... | ||

Illegal, and FUN are 2 separate issues.....Do you seriously obey all traffic laws when on your bike? 25 mph in turns with 25 mph speed limits? 65 mph on the highway all the time?... Personally I speed, been known to ride a wheelie, and definitely take the twisties at a much higher rate of speed than the posted speed limits....I've done track day's to help with my cornering, and don't see any problem with somebody paying to learn a skill that they may not be accelerating at on their own....and if you want to keep it legal you can always ride wheelies on private lot's...so why not learn to do it safely from the jump? I do see your point Larry... if you're going to do it, a class to keep you from screwing it up would be handy. I just can't help thinking of all the other things you could do with $500... guess that's just me.  Well, that, and I hate seeing people doing wheelies out on the highway. So many people are irresponsible with them, doing stunts in the middle of busy highways at high speed, putting other motorists in danger if they make a mistake. You know most of the people that take this class will be taking it just for that reason, so they can show off in public. I have no problem at all with wheelies out of traffic.  ~SM | ||

He rides wheelies through the curves for added excitement. CRAZY AZZ CRACKER.... Here's one I like to call 'SQUID WHEELIE'...Its the only time I've ever worn shorts on my bike.  | ||
