Hello,

As of next week my City X will be mostly flat black in color and I also want to wrap my headers. Where is a good source for the wrap that you guys like. This bike is bit by bit becoming what I have wanted as far as it looks and runs. This is fun.

Stealth and I have shared that kit twice now.
Since you have an XB9, you can do what I did if you'd like.
I started at the front head, and wrapped all the way down the collector, then back up the collector (this makes the collector wrapped twice), up to the rear head, back down to the split (this makes the rear header wrapped twice), up and ending at the front head (making the front header wrapped twice).
It makes a big difference in heat felt by you.
You won't have to use but one roll in that kit to do this.
Here's a picture of my twice wrapped headers.

Did you do this with the header still attached to the engine? How difficult was it wrap the back one? It looks like it will be very difficult to get to on my Uly.

Also, wouldn't 1" wrap be easier to work with?

Yes. Still attached.
Not too difficult, time consuming though.
I only went as far as I could go, I wasn't worried about going beyond the o2 sensor.

Also, a lot of guys soak the wrap first..makes it much more flexible and easier to work. And get some good, thick latex gloves when working with it...can save your hands from getting really itchy.

ps. someone chime in if this is contrary to your experience.

I didn't soak it, I tested that theory and found a LOT of the graphite came off in the water.
To help with wrapping I did use a spray bottle of water, I would just spray a little each wrap to relax it a bit if it needed it.
It did not need to be sprayed each go round.
Others did soak, I've heard everything from just getting it damp, to soaking it for a half an hour.
The spray is what worked for me.

I did sort of soaked mine, or just had a 5 gallon jug of water next to me, and just let it ride through the top of the water to get wet, Not really SOAKED, FWIW.. I overlapped just 1/4 inch as that is what I have read and saw done no more ,but it is hard to keep it at just 1/4 inch but I treid to maintain that... USed 2 inch by 50 ft. roll ,perhaps used about 2/3 of the roll maybe a little less..
I got 2 rolls should be enough for the 3 xb`s I have to do..

I did mine dry, if i was using the white I might soak it, but the grey/black wrap looked
like it would have been a big mess if I soaked it. Definitely use rubber gloves, and long
sleeves when working with this stuff. Shower in cold water after you finish to keep your
pores from opening up and getting the "fiberglass itchies" worse.

I soaked my black/grey in the water, it wasn't that big of a mess and cut down on the air born fibers considerablly. Make sure you get the black silicone sealer from DEI also, because that is what will give you the flat black look.

Did mine dry on the race and stock headers. In addition to what Brian recommends, if you put the wrap on dry I'd suggest using a filter mask, as like Brian says, there are lots of airborne fibers when put on dry.

So the silicone spray is just to keep the wrap a deeper black? It doesnt NEED to be sprayed does it?

Does it cool off your right leg much when you add the wrap? Summer is here, and if it will make a difference, I will ride over to summit and get some.
