Why are they so short? Leaning the bike at that angle just doesn't seem right. I carry a piece of 2x4 around with me to stand the bike up. Has anybody modded their kickstand with a little welding or other method to make it just a bit longer? I'm thinking about maybe a thick rubber pad under the foot or a piece of metal welded under there... |

-=shrugs=- There was a change to the kickstands since the '03 XBs came out...I still have the original kickstand on mine and have never had any issues with it nor worries about the bike going over. If I recall correctly, they actually did have an issue with the first round of replacement stands breaking, but the next set ironed that out. The only real difference, I believe, was that the new ones have a bit more of a forward angle to the stand when deployed to keep the bike from being able to roll off the stand so easily. ...me...I've just never parked my bike nose-down. |

I'm not worried about it coming off the stand, I know how to park on a hill. Thats not the issue. The issue is the lean angle. I don't want to put my bike on a wheel stand just to load my saddle bags. It's a serious PITA to get anything in or out of my left saddle bag when it is hanging at that angle. Also, everything strapped on the tail wants to come off while I'm tying it all down. So I'm going to mod my kickstand one of these next days coming up. I'll take a picture and post it for anyone who wants to look. |

Either we have a very different idea of what constitutes an unacceptable lean angle when on the stand, or they changed the overall tilt of the bike between '03 and '04. I've never had a problem loading my tank, tail, or saddlebags with the bike on the sidestand. It seems to me that a thick hunk of rubber with a hole drilled through it so that you can bolt it to the underside of the kickstand would be a good, non-permanent change to decrease the lean angle. Make sure that whatever you do is very secure side-to-side (relative to the bike) so that there's no chance of it sliding off the stand toward centerline of the bike and giving it a hard jolt when the stand itself hits the pavement. |

or they changed the overall tilt of the bike between '03 and '04. Take a look when you get the chance. Our kick stand is solid, when we put ours down, and the weight of the bike is on the stand nothing happens. The newer kick stands are "hinged", when the weight of the bike gets on the stand, it rocks back an inch or so, making the angle a little steeper than what we're used to. |

If you think the XB bikes lean over too far, you should see an S2. Every single person who sat on mine jumps when they get off because they think it's going to fall...I just shrug and say "it's supposed to do that"... |

Either explanation was perfectly plausible. =D 1) Everyone has their own opinions and 2) I've only ridden an '04 once. |

Well I can tell you that a 2x4 under the kickstand puts it at what I consider to be the proper angle. Now that I think of it, this is the flimsiest kickstand of any bike I've ever had. I guess they did it to save weight, I'm not really bitchin about it I guess, just seems too far over to me. I'm gonna find some sort of rubber pad, maybe 1.25 inch thick and customize it a bit. That should put me where I want to be. |

I have a couple of pieces of 5/8" plywood in my driveway in my normal parking spots to help mine sit at a more comfortable level (gravel driveway) and a piece of 2x4 in the shed for when its in there - but the shed is a bit off-level leaning to the left - so I needed a little more. |
