How much do they hurt the bike? and where should you be droppin' the clutch out to get a nice even tire lift. |

I personally don't do the clutch drop, I just leave it in first gear, give it power to the first little Rpm "boost", let off the throttle and whack the throttle again and it comes right up, especially when there's a cop around. |

I don't do wheelies as a rule, but everybody clowns around once in a while right? My front wheel comes up about 4 or 5 inches at every traffic light. If I grab the whole handful it will stand up straight with ease. I've never understood why people abuse the poor clutch... what did the clutch ever do to you? |

2nd gear 4,000 rpms, (40mph or so) lil bounce and a lil flip of the clutch stands it right up nice and then just balance and hold it. 1st watch out went over cple weeks back. 3rd hard bounce and hard clutch around 65mph |

I'm less talented and ballsy than many of these whipper snappers. Like some of the guys said above: In first gear I just get my 9S to 4k or 4.5k rpm, shut the throttle fast to compress the forks, and whack it open while the front end is bouncing back up. Works very consistently. |

I'm curious as don't know or have any experience with vtwins and stuntin... How does riding wheelies out for a short distance like 1/4 mile or so fair out on these engines? I know some of the big 4 bikes starve pretty bad at 12 o'clock or even lower on long distance wheelies... Curious if anyone can clue me in as to the way oil is moved around in these beasts and how a wheelie could damage em... Thanks folks! |

Hey Blake would you mind making a skyguy sucks at wheelies icon? I could just post it to all the wheelie threads lol |

I think you are ok with long wheelies due to the dry sump. I haven't heard of any problems. Some of the other manufacturers' wet-sump designs do not have pick-ups designed for wheelies, and can run dry. Just depends on the design of the pick-up and the sump. |

Personally I think it's harder on the bike to do power wheelies, and they are not nearly as easy to control. If you are good with the clutch it really doesn't require a ton of revs to bring the front wheel up. There are two camps in that discussion. Have you ever seen a stunter rocking power wheelies in the parking lot? Control is key. Make sure you give the throttle a good blip right before the tire hits the ground so you're not banging the front end down while you're learning too. I usually pull the clutch in anywhere from 2500 to 3000 rpms to clutch wheelies in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. |

i wheelie around a lot and had to get the motor rebuilt from ground up because after doin a wheelie i noticed a real hard knocking noise. took it into the dealer they said that the engine had been starved of oil and overheated. warrenty covered it all (i said that it just happened goin down the road). if your gonna stunt, get the high volume oil drive, it's only $40 |

Haa haa! For sure there some folks with deep pockets stuntin the xb but I'm just curious how many rebuilds they go through in a given time? Is the 'High Volume Oil Drive' the answer to starving your engine of oil while suntin a lot? Not to sound like an ignoramous 'all my bike is good for is a wheelie' kinda rider, I mean I like just as much to spend a couple hours in the hills in some nice twisties as I do ridin wheelies around town with some friends, but want to make sure the machine can hold up to it either way... |

Oh ok so you're talking about simply the high perf drive gear that comes stock on the '06 models? I kinda thought ya meant somethin like a higher volume oil resevoir or somethin to that effect... |

Hey how exactly do you pull the clutch in at a certain RPM/speed to do a wheelie? |

Alright, I got a question for you guys that are getting your front wheels up very easily without clutching. How much do you wiegh? I am about 220(or is it 230?)and I find that the only way that I can bring the wheel up is if I am in first and run it up to at least 4500 rpm and then let off and get back on it. I have an xb12r. Is there a better rpm range to use? ps - I've found that the hot babes on buells post did help a little. Gregg |

Gregg, I'm at the same 4500 RPM on a 9S on flat ground. I weigh 210, and wear an aerostitch over my street cloths. |

Thanks, I guess I have to work on my techique. That may take awhile as I really don't aspire to do alot of wheelies. Gregg |

Wheelies are fun, just cover the back break in case something goes wrong. I rode 4th gears wheelies well over 100 MPH on my R1 all the time. I've tamed it down a bit, but still love wheelies on my XB12R. Still working on 3rd gear ones on the Buell. 1st and 2nd are just a flick of the clutch on these torque monsters. 3rd will take some clutch, gas and bouncing I believe. Good luck, remember the back BREAK. |

yeah i might need to talk to Daves sometime soon to order some rear brakes, as mine are almost shot from using them so much on standup wheelies (and sitdowns for that matter). Never noticed any knocking after doing long wheelies yet, my longest is probably 1.5 miles, pretty much straight up without increasing speed. I usually pull it up shifting from first to second sitting down at about 30 mph (with clutch), but make sure to cover my rear cause it comes straight up to balance point quick at that speed.

That's one way of not wearing out your front tire from coming down on high speed wheelies. |
